Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A cashmere v-neck sweater from Uniqlo, now $60, a simple lace cami from BP, now 50% off, pink Havianas, now 40% off (these are still my favorite flip flops), and a short sleeve black shirtdress from Eileen Fisher, now under $100.

Also, because I’ve had so many requests – these remain my favorite masks for kids, I have multiple pairs in my bag, the car, etc.

First, thank you all for all your comments on my leggings post from Monday. I haven’t had time to respond (both my kids had random days “off” from school this week, both on separate days, UGH). BuT thank you all for sharing your experience and anyone looking for legging recs please check out the comments! I know I will be and will update on any I try.

Okay, now moving on!

1. This week, sharing this cashmere tank and cardi set, from Reformation.

Quite nice, right? And the price is decent. Not GREAT but certainly not as much as the Khaite cardigan I like so much, which Net-A-Porter keeps assuring me is soon to run out at $1500. Ugh! Anyway, I think it is quite clever that Reformation has this one as a set – I love both of them together and separate and it makes it seem like a better deal. Can you imagine the little tank with a pair of high legged silk pants? This is going on my wishlist for sure.

2. Sharing this hilarious piece about Schitt’s Creek, written by Tressie McMillan Cottom. I’m one of those people who just can’t get into the show. I’ve tried numerous times! You have no idea how much I would very much like to like Schitts! But it is NOT like Arrested Development!

PS: I am a big fan of Tressie McMillan Cottom’s writing and can’t remember if I’ve shared it before – if not, I highly recommend her collection of essays, Thick. She just won a MacArthur Genius Grant!

3. One of those “can you believe these rich people stories”, via the NY Times, The Island Brokers Are Overwhelmed.

4. A very well done piece, via The Washington Post – a former Covid denier shares his experience.

5. This week I read Leave The World Behind, by Rumaan Alam.

I was very excited to read this book. I actually have read both of Alam’s prior books and really like his writing. I like my characters unlikeable and don’t care as much about something super plotted so he’s perfectly up my alley. BUT this one had a fast plot. It is a thriller, albeit a highly literary one, and I read it in a day. If you’re looking for a gorgeously written, creepy, slightly horrifying book and don’t need a prettily tied ending – I highly recommend Leave The World Behind.

Hi Kat! I have 3 cousins that caught the virus. Praise The Lord, they all survived. One said he had a bad headache that wouldn’t go away. His wife( cousin to me by marriage) has diabetes. I was told she had to go to the Hospital a couple of times. I didn’t hear about my younger cousin’s symptoms.
I don’t believe it’s as bad as it is said to be. I have my own theories. However, I still take precautions. I wear my mask at work and when I’m downstairs at Home. My Target runs are curbside. My Safeway runs are mostly curbside. The few times I go inside Safeway I go early. I don’t really miss going out as I’m used to it. Caregiving is practically a full time job. I’m still mourning my Mother so there isn’t any place I want to go.

Liz…your cousins were very lucky. Almost 8 million in the U.S. have gotten the virus…over 200,000 have died. Obviously, for the millions who survived, it wasn’t “as bad”. But, for those who have died, old and young, it is indeed bad. Keep taking the precautions you are, and be thankful your cousins survived.

Same on Schitt’s Creek. Although I did enjoy Emily in Paris for the scenery. Makes me miss Paris. The storyline was meh… Emily is pretty floppy.

Arrested Development was great until the last season released on Netflix. Schitt’s Creek is fantastic, much like Parks and Rec, it gets much much better as the seasons go on. Plus, Schitt’s Creek is Canadian – gotta support my fellow Canadians.
