Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A cozy cashmere cable sweater from J.Crew, now under $100 with code VACAY, an alpaca cardigan from Everlane, now under $100, and a chic fleece pullover from The North Face, now 25% off.

1. This week, sharing a pretty cotton top from Madewell, also on sale!

I’m ordering this to try it out – I need more long sleeved tops apart from my basic Uniqlo ones. I like the details and that it is all cotton, and will report back if it works out!

2. I really enjoyed this interview, via The New Yorker, with Candace Bushnell. I wish SATC had more Candace and less whatever has gone on in the movies, the later seasons of the show, and this reboot.

3. A feature via the NYT on Chiara Ferragni and her family. I kind of forgot about her – I feel so old when I realize people are huge stars and I never watch anything with them in it, or come across any of their posts. Same with Addison Rae, etc.

4. An oldie piece I randomly came across, via Vanity Fair – quite an interesting deep dive into an older scandal, The Man in the Latex Suit. This is for all your true crime fans out there!

5. This week, I’m (re) recommending a book I first shared in a weekend update in February 2020, which I think is especially relevant now: The Man Without A Face, by Masha Gessen.

Obviously this book is even more relevant now given the invasion of Ukraine. It’s a biography and commentary on Putin and helps shed light on this autocrat – and really, even if you don’t read it, maybe check out Gessen’s latest piece in The New Yorker, which describes how Putin wants his own citizens (and by extension, the citizens of other countries friendly to him) to see this war. I have been really surprised and saddened by some of the opinions I have heard about this invasion – I think there is always room for debate and there are multiple sides to every conflict, but the repetition of pure propaganda, from intelligent people, has been really shocking to me. There is always room for nuance in a debate – but there is also reality, and the truth. The truth is the most important. I highly recommend The Man Without A Face.
