Weekend Update

1. For those looking for a nice summer dress, might I suggest this green version, from DAFT?

Yes, you are not alone – the name makes me giggle too (the brand is apparently from Milan, and I’m not sure if they were aware of the English implications). This dress comes in a few colors but I’m partial to the green. Its the sort of item I think you might wear on lazy summer days with sandals but also immediately take with you on holiday. And more conservative given some of the super skimpy dresses out there lately (now I sound like a nun).

Also for those looking for more affordable linen dresses – check out this Topshop version, just $55 (a shameless Reformation rip, but a simple design), and this viscose linen mix from All Saints – a great option for those looking for more coverage/work appropriate looks that are comfortable to boot. I also like this linen jumpsuit, via J.Crew, now under $50 with code HOORAY.

2. For you frequent travelers out there, via the WSJ, about which airlines go cheap on wine. Do you drink on planes? Sometimes I’ll do a bit of champagne before takeoff but I rarely drink after I’m on board – I already feel dehydrated enough. I secretly envy those who can get sloshed on planes, I just can’t handle it.

3. A maddening, yet necessary, article via The NY Times about how a women-led revolt has led to an exodus of male executives. Too little, too late, and good riddance.

4. Another great article via Vanessa Friedman, again via The NY Times, about who gets to go to the Met Gala (and a bunch of other juicy little details).

5. This week’s reading: The Passage, by Justin Cronin.

The Passage is the sort of book that a good number of you probably already know about – apparently it was huge when it came out, yet I missed it altogether. It’s one of those post-apocalyptic sagas (which despite some saying is a genre that’s played out, I still can’t get enough of) and more importantly…not only has a great plot, but is also really well written. I tore through this one all the way to the end. Highly recommend The Passage (and I’m soon onto the rest of the books in the series) – I especially would give this one a read, if you liked books like The Stand, or Station Eleven.

I never get Met Gala’s fashion, to me it’s just some really ugly clothes with an enormous price tag. I get that it’s supposed to be creative? but seriously, some are downright hideous.
