Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Simple heeled waterproof booties from Blondo, now $70, a very cute chunky sweater from Madewell, now under $30 (I feel that a huge shipment must have come in late and they missed holiday??), flat black classic “Tribute” sandals from YSL, now 40% off, and not on sale but my current #1 favorite sweater is back in various sizes.

1. This week, sharing this very cute J.Crew turtleneck.

This is the sort of versatile item you’ll have in your closet forever. I like turtlenecks but often have the sensation of my neck being itchy – so love that this is cotton and loose. My last comment though – WHY is this $90 “full price”? If J.Crew is using better quality materials then I’m happy to pay but then they should be doing it across the board. I’d be happy to pay more for organic and good labor conditions. Anyway.

2. An old article I meant to share weeks ago. I think I’ve been pretty public about my vote for Biden. However this article, via The Washington Post, was the most compelling portrait (to me) thus far for for why someone might vote for Trump. I hope regardless of administration, workers like this woman receive the help they need. How can we take such poor care of so many of our fellow citizens?

3. I thought this was a funny article, via Politico, about a shop in DC that sells books purely for the use of background decor. At least people are buying books, if only for decoration! The equivalent of the closet shot where you position your Chanel bag just so.

4. I’m sure many of you have seen this already – a “I don’t feel too sorry for them” piece, via the Ny Times, about the Bitcoin holders who can’t remember their passwords. Are any of you Bitcoin holders? I know we have quite a few investors and women working in finance who are readers.

5. This week I read Man At The Helm, by Nina Stibbe.

I really loved this book. It is charming and very funny in a clever, super well written British way. It’s narrated in the first person, by a young girl who is fixated on getting her mother re-married…to have a “man at the helm,” as it were. If you’re for a funny, semi-uplifting read, with tons and tons of dry British wit, I highly recommend Man At The Helm.

I’m super late to this as I had thought of it as a currency replacement and it was flawed. My view on it is changing though – could it be digital gold, as in not a currency but as a medium to preserve value? It’s got some good features for that purpose. Of course the price will be volatile for a while but who knows in the long term (wink wink)? And another thing (I’m sure you know), price is always relative.

Speaking of British humor or news, have you read the real-life drama between Phil Collins and his ex wife/girlfriend Orianne Cevey? She did look pretty when she was younger and their kids are cute. She had the highest divorce settlement, then she and Phil had a faiytale reunion, then she won’t leave his mansion. I can’t believe Lily Collins is his daughter sometimes. At least she is keeping her private life private. Good for her.

I’m also enjoying Peony Lim’s IG TV https://www.instagram.com/tv/CKEbGdvFWt4/ and Defining your Personal Style series. Her makeup preps are also nice to watch.

Thank you for introducing her to us!

I loved Man at the Helm, nice quick read. Resilience and family but with both British stiff upper lip attitude and British humor.

Are you watching Bling Empire on Netflix? Christine Chiu, the big-time couture client, is one of the stars (thanks for recommending that article about her). Jaime Xie is also in it. I was really impressed when over lockdown last summer, she shared that everyone in her house had to wash his/her own dishes and that she’s in charge of vacuuming and her father cleans the swimming pool since their household help couldn’t come to clean. She also revealed in the last episode that she made 40k from her influencer work to which Christine said isn’t enough to buy even one couture look.

I am watching it!!! Do you like it? It is a little uneven but still happy that Asians get to have a reality TV show. More, more!
