Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A simple t-shirt dress from Vince, now 25% off, a Lacoste hoodie, now 30% off (I know it’s mens but I love it as an oversized option), the classic Ralph Lauren baseball cap, now 25% off, and all jeans are currently $75 at Madewell (I am partial to this high waisted pair, I just hope the petite is short enough!).

1. On Monday’s post about coats, a reader, L, commented that she has 9 (!!) Theory Clairene coats. Which I understand – this coat is great! I got to thinking about it again and looked up this season’s colors, only to discover this lovely plaid version.

Ahh! And now I want it. I love the long blazer/oversized jacket trend but one thing for me is that it’s a wee bit too formal – I love the idea of a short and soft jacket that’s just super cozy and flexible. And I am picky about plaid and this is perfect. And I’m happy that it is wool/cashmere. I have long eyed this Everlane version but was never happy that it’s almost 40% nyln. At 25% off the Theory jacket is still a little too dear for me but I’m thinking whether to take the chance of it selling out. I should wait, right?

2. A thoughtful article, via the NY Times, about if luxury fashion can ever regain its luster. What do you think? I didn’t realize it was “fashion week season” to be honest. I don’t miss the posts. Maybe because I’m a boring ol’ mummy now but they were less and less relevant to me.

3. Fashion (and Prada) lovers will enjoy this interview, by Cathy Horyn for The Cut, with Miuccia Prada. Love Miuccia who I find seems more self aware than most designers. I would love if she wrote a memoir one day.

4. An interesting piece via NY Mag, about the fall of Troy Young (former head of Hearst). Readers who work in the industry -how is it going?? I know it’s a seismic period and I actually started subscribing to more magazines again. I would be very sad if they went the way of the department store.

5. This week I read What Was She Thinking (Notes On A Scandal), by Zoe Heller.

I don’t remember how I came across the novel – maybe an old Guardian review? I tried it out on a whim and I LOVED IT. The writing is clever and intelligent and the plot, though disturbing (about a high school teacher having an affair with her student) was enough to keep me turning the pages. I feel like I’m selling this as a thriller and it isn’t really that – maybe a slow burning one, but super engaging, and really well written. That being said: “unlikeable” characters ahead! Which I love but I know not everyone does. But if you do, I highly recommend What Was She Thinking?

I love Massimo Dutti’s plaid wool blazers, so soft and comfy and prices are pretty reasonable!
