Recent Purchases – August 2020

Sale PSA: A pretty sheer crochet skirt from Vince, now 40% off, a thin easy cami from Uniqlo, now under $10, simple tan leather sandals from Steve Madden, now $37, and a chic cover up from Reformation, now under $40.

Hello! How was your weekend? Like many in the Bay Area we kind of played whack a mole with the air this weekend – darting outside for brief bits to give the kids some exercise when the air was better, running back in when it got worse. There were several new toys opened this weekend to try and pass the time. Ugh. Anyway! Sharing some of of my recent purchases, on the last day of August:

Eileen Fisher long cardigan duster: I first saw this when doing one my sale PSAS (at Nordstrom) and liked its look so much I decided to search for a cheaper price. And I found it, via Eileen Fisher direct (I think Nordstrom will also price match). I like it a lot! Almost everything about it – the length, the way it is sheer, the kind of visual interest it adds to an outfit while still being super comfortable. I haven’t bought EF for a long time but like this one quite a bit.

I’m 5’1 and took a size XS – Petite and it fits well. I think I could have gone a size larger too, for a more slouchy look, but non petite would have likely touched the ground.

Shoes above are the Everlane day heel mules (mine are from a prior season).

Giraffe Leopard throw: I told you I was going to buy this! For some reason a bunch of my Nordstrom anniversary stuff is delayed, but this super thick throw arrived, just in time for 85 degree weather in the middle of a heatwave. Well anyway it is super soft and I am very happy with it! That being said it is sitting in my closet. The print is less intense than I thought but I think it’ll look nice on my bed or on my couch in the winter.

Also, if it’s sold out, keep checking! It comes in and out of stock. I wonder if they’ll keep it marked down or just put it back up to regular price.

Levoit Purifier: I mentioned this in last week’s post but I really like it. It has been running pretty much all the time for over a few weeks now and I can tell when using it in a room that the air is noticeably cleaner. Since buying it I’ve looked at other models priced around the same price and this is still my favorite in the $100 range.

Also, for my mega purifier, I also purchased this Austin Air. Yes it’s a lot but our home’s layout means there’s kind of one big room where my son is doing a lot of his distance learning. Also…I mean if I spend this much on shoes it’d be stupid not to do it on a purifier, right?

Powder pink notebook: Ugh this was purely unnecessary. But like many writers I love notebooks and I wanted to have this on my desk, okay?? Makes me feel like a hip millennial in say, 2015. Leuchtturm is my favorite notebook brand (aside from some Japanese ones that are harder for me to find in the US).

Baggu Brown Cow tote. Okay this hasn’t technically arrived yet. Because it is backordered! But I like it so much I wanted to share. I don’t know what it is about the cow print that I like so much but it is very cool! Even though honestly I do not need more canvas bags.

Another alternative is the Everlane “Do It All” Tote. I like the price and this is actually the kind of tote I’ve wanted Baggu to do for ags.

The Ordinary Natural Factors: I bought the larger size even though I hadn’t tried it. For $7.70, why not? A good kind of “all around” moisturizer and the price is SO GOOD. I’m not more hideous after using it and it doesn’t make me break out and it makes my face feel nice and soft. Pretty good for under $8, right?

The resale market has been SOOO bad for me. *hides
I did a purse inventory, and I definitely need to trim my collection, but it’s so hard to decide what to keep!

I’m also a pretty big fan of Leuchtturms, recently got one in burgundy and another in teal. They’re not perfect for fountain pen usage, but they’re pretty solid. (I did like the older ones from a few years ago better than the ones now, I think the paper has become slightly less fountain-pen friendly, and for the dot grid ones, they’ve changed the placement of the dot grid slightly.) For notebooks made by Japanese companies, I’ve been buying from Yoseka Stationery (a small shop that’s based in NYC) and Jetpens. Though my favorite notebooks for fountain pens are made by very small makers that mostly sell direct to their customers.

I’ve spent a lot on fountain pens, ink, and stationery in the past few months, and spent a lot less on clothes or accessories.

I just started buying things for myself again and I generally just want comfy and cozy things. I really love anything by this small brand called Jason Scott that is based out of Tribeca NYC. They make the softest tees on the planet, they are insane. also everything has a great cut and silhouette. I’ve also been loving Everlane (per usual for me) and got the day loafer mule (in snake embossed leather – highly recommend!) and also their super soft denim. Also snatched up a couple of new swimsuits from Boden in their summer sale. I am new to needing swim suits, so I am not sure where to look, but I found Boden’s selection and quality to be great for the price.

I think the Nordstrom delays are caused by customer returns being shipped at this point to the next buyer. Talk about recycled goods! With the early access items, things got shipped within a week of the order date and the packaging looked brand new.

I ordered the Chanel hand creme, and 2 were canceled and one went through. Most likely a return because it was sold out for a while. Yeah, I know…Gross. then I purchase a Serge Luten perfume to see fingerprints all over the bottle with no plastic wrapping on the box. Most likely a return as well. When I returned it to the store, there is sign at the return counter that says all returns are put back on display. I think I won’t be shopping at Nordstrom for a while…
