Weekend Update

Sale PSA: The ever popular Zella 7/8 leggings, now 40% off, a pretty vintagey tiger print dress from HVN, now 40% off, and a great thermal top from Free People, now 40% off.

1. Sharing this week, one of my favorite winter layering items- these compact down jackets from Uniqlo.

I wear these a LOT! On their own, but also layered under coats. A great thing about them is they have a little inside snap so you can kind of make the neckline into a v so that they don’t stick out under coats. Amazing, no? Adds warmth, but no bulk, and soo well priced – if you haven’t tried it (and are perpetually trying to adjust to various temperatures) I would recommend. There’s also a vest and long coat version.

2. A short but interesting piece, via the WSJ, about how luxury wasn’t the best investment in 2019 (thanks R!). Haven’t we seen this? How at least on the resale luxury side, prices have stagnated?

3. I was sent this NY Times piece, about murder and revenge within a wealthy Chinese family in Vancouver, by a reader who knows exactly my tastes. Thank you, Z!

4. Two pieces via The Cut about how various power women get things done – the first is Katrina Lake, CEO of Stitch Fix, and the second is wedding planner Jung Lee.

5. This week I’m reading Amy and Isabelle, by Elizabeth Strout.

Yes I’ve really been on a Strout kick. And this one is great! Her debut, and it proceeds in a more linear fashion that some of her other novels. It is about a complex mother/daughter relationship (if that sounds frothy to you, it is not) and is just so well written engaging, and that little streak of both melancholy and hope that’s in all of Strout’s novels. If you loved any of Strout’s books, I highly recommend Amy and Isabelle.

That coat looks like a winner. I wouldn’t think to wear it under a coat but that would give my wool coats more warmth when I don’t want to wear a massive down number to keep warm in Canadian February. So smart! The luxury article is fascinating. Louis Vuitton was super busy when we were in New York before Christmas but people mostly seemed to be just looking. Too bad since I keep trying to convince my investment guy that Chanel bags are a bona fide asset class!
