Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A chic zebra print dress from Dries van Noten, now 60% off, a cropped poplin shirt, now $55, and ruched thong sandals from Khaite, now 70% off.

1. This week, sharing these padded thong sandals, from J.Crew.

I like these a lot and the price (now on sale) is right! I love a wedge thong for some things but I’ve just found so many of them so heavy – so finally I’ve settled on lower ones as being the right fit. I love the clean white of these and won’t feel so bad about getting them dirty.

2. Reading the Credit Suisse news this week reminded me of this infuriating article, via the NYT, about the racism and awful behavior their former CEO Tidjane Thiam endured. I read it again and was upset all over.

3. I enjoyed this review, via Rachel Tashjian for Harpers Bazaar, on the Miu Miu runway show and others. I rarely read runway coverage honestly but really liked this.

4. I enjoyed this piece, also via the NYT, about how to avoid looking like a tourist in New York.

5. This week I read When We Cease To Understand The World, by Benjamin Labatut.

I really enjoyed this though I don’t totally know how to explain it…it’s a fictionalized account of the lives of many genius scientists/mathematics. The way Labatut tells their stories you really understand the impact of their discoveries on the world. Ahh! I make it sound so light and it’s not, it’s a really important and fascinating book. Are you in the mood for a beach read where the husband is killed? OK maybe this one isn’t for you. But if you want a fiction/non-fiction hybrid about the role of science in the world and humanity…I highly recommend When We Cease To Understand The World.

I also loved that review of Miu Miu. I kept looking at the show, wondering why I kept looking, and then that review told me exactly why.
