Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A great beach shirt from J.Crew, now 40% off, the Clinique chubby stick, still one of my favorites, now 20% off, and a green linen wrap dress from Maje, now 30% off.

1. This week, sharing this raffia bag from Loewe.

I think out of all designers right now, my favorite is Loewe! I love the bag designs in particular – they are fun and youthful and always have an interesting design element. I love the green of this one and the unusual shape. There’s also a natural tan version but I’m drawn to the green.

2. For those who like money diaries, please check out this Refinery29 piece on a brand director who regrets spending $600 at ASOS. Would love to hear your thoughts! Is this even real? Sometimes I think these are made up.

3. A fun piece, via the WSJ, about men who collect Birkin bags.

4. An important read, via the Guardian, about Shein and its place in fostering “throwaway” fashion.

5. This week I read Sea of Tranquility, by Emily St. John Mandel.

I’m a Mandel fan!! So I was really looking forward to this one. I pretty much got it on the day it came out. And it doesn’t disappoint (though Station Eleven is still my favorite work of hers). But honestly Mandel is such a gorgeous writer I’d read her just describing a cardboard box for an entire book. If you liked Station Eleven, or really any of Mandel’s last work, I recommend Sea of Tranquility

It never occured to me that money diaries might be fake (I find them facinating), but I do find this one particularly suspicious. If not for the bagel habit, because she ordered from a Bloomingdale’s app. Unless she lives in the middle east (and who in the middle east craves tuna sandwiches?), Bloomingdale’s doesn’t have an app.

Bloomingdales does have an app. I’ve used it personally myself since there are occasional offers and discounts available exclusively on the app. The UI is great as well.

Yeah this money diaries was outrageous! Both for the bagel deliveries (to her HOUSE?!) and the zero 401k/savings. I really feel like it could be fake!

The zero savings for 401k is more shocking than the $600 asos!! And so irresponsible with money!

“We need to take away the license to do harm.” The Shein business model is really abhorrent. Thank you for posting this article!
