Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A great plumping lip balm from YSL, now 33% off, classic metallic mules from By Far, now 50% off, and this fuzzy long Ugg cardigan, now 40% off, I was eyeing as it is seriously cold where I am (for California, OK, OK).

1. This week, sharing this adorable bag which I am really really tempted by (!!) by Rue de Verneuil.

First, it’s sub $200. Which is already excellent. Then it comes with a nice shoulder strap, looks light, adorable, useful – I should just do it already except that I’m trying to stay on track and get the items on my existing wish list first! This piece was shown to me by a dear friend (hi J) who has already received hers and the report is that it is excellent. So….

2. An interesting piece, via The Cut, about being the personal assistant to a celebrity.

3. Loved this piece, via the NY Times, about what it takes to move than a hundred thousand pieces of jewelry at Tiffany.

4. Sharing this article, via The Atlantic, on night nannies. Did you get one? They are so high priced but I also think they are worth it – we never got one but I actually deal okay with little sleep so that’s why it ended up that way.

5. This week I’m reading Long Bright River, by Liz Moore.

Disclaimer: I haven’t finished this yet. HOWEVER it is a thriller/detective story which is one of my favorite genres which I haven’t read a great new one of in a while! But so far, this is awesome. Very Lehane ish, about two sisters, reminds me a bit of Mystic River. I haven’t finished it yet, but based on how it’s going, I highly recommend Long Bright River.

A friend was a PA to someone who was an A-lister in the 80s but then fell off the map. She said he was scary crazy and she had to do all sorts of weird things. The money was great but she quit after a short time. She ought to write a book. I didn’t get a night nanny but hired a day nanny for my second child’s first year to help with my eldest. It was worth every penny since I could nap in the day when my son slept.

My mom used a night nanny with me (in the early 1980’s) and when I had my oldest child in 2008, my parents offered to pay for a night nanny for us. At the time, we were living in 1200 square feet in the Seattle area and it felt over-the-top, until two weeks after I had Remy and all I could dream of was sleep. For our second, we used a night nanny throughout, not every night, but most weeks a couple of nights. I think it’s an amazing gift, especially if your family’s far away.

Very interesting article about night nannies. I was incredibly fortunate that myself and my husband both had generous parental leave coverage, in addition to having all 4 grandparents nearby, so we didn’t use a night nanny (although it definitely would have been nice!!!), but I’m an anomaly among my mom friends in my HCOL city, both my working mom friends and SAHM friends almost all used a night nanny for at least some nights.
