Hi there – I hope you all had a nice weekend. A little on what I’ve been up to, lately!

First, behold my latest puzzle! An ocean themed 3000 piece, from Ravensburger. I really liked this one. It is beautiful and there are so many little sea creatures in it. My favorite was the turtle! My friend just adopted a 50 year old tortoise so I’ve been really intrigued by the idea. I know there are salmonella concerns though, etc.

Closet: I did a big clean out of my wardrobe, as I think I’ve mentioned in prior posts. So I had these large bags of stuff to give away, including basically all of my short dresses, as I prefer long ones now to give me coverage and lots of loose room with my Covid weight. And then, well I don’t know if it is the warm weather, or a lot of watching of the Real Housewives of Miami (underrated franchise – I LOVE this season) or WHAT….but I was like…why not have a few short dress options around? I still need to be able to have some items for super hot weather! So I went and took a few back from the garage. We’ll see if I actually use them. Ha. But I’ve regretted a few other items I’ve tossed after the fact so I kept that in mind here.

Comfortable shoes: I am also on the hunt for some comfortable sandals I can do light hikes in. I tried these Tevas, which I thought were so cute, but they scratched my foot. I don’t know if it was just the gold material (I bought champagne). I’m going to try them on in person next time at a real store.

Kids: Are good. My daughter will be starting Kindergarten this fall, which means that I will have both kids at the same school for the first time. YES!!! I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. I bought them these Nerf toys the other day and they have been playing with them a lot. One of my more successful toy purchases, FYI, for anyone looking.

Travel: We have done a few little family trips. One nice side effect of the pandemic is that we have done a lot more exploring by car. So Tahoe, Yosemite, etc. I have to confess I have zero interest in skiing, which I thought would give me a pass, aka I can just hang out in the hotel room while everyone else skis. But of course instead I am just carrying stuff around the ski resorts, waiting for lessons to be done, etc, instead. Oh well.

World: It has been so disturbing, and heartbreaking, to watch what’s going on in Ukraine. And disturbing as well are the conversations I’ve been having on the war…friends in certain countries insisting that we talk only over certain apps…the messages being deleted after, the fear pervading conversations with friends who even a few weeks ago were insisting that all would be fine, they would be fine, it would be OK to stay. I think it is OK, and natural, to have some cognitive dissonance at times (ie…me prattling on about travel and shopping above). But I don’t think this is a story we can let ourselves get fatigued by. We have to keep it in our minds. Because so much is crumbling, real time.

I’m a little behind on your posts! Try cross country skiing. I know it isn’t as glamorous as downhill but there’s something v soothing to cruising past the trees. And it’s way less resource intensive (money and equipment). When you’re tired you just pull off. No need to catch the next lift, find the next trail…
