Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A very cute velour hoodie from adidas, now $43, a simple, flattering Nike hoodie, now $43, and silk jogger pants from Everlane, now $100.

Hi. I wasn’t sure if I was going to post today, but decided to do so as if this was a “normal” (what is that anymore) weekend update. More at the bottom.

1. This week, sharing a linen dress which I have eyed for years.

I have a minor Etsy addiction. I especially like to buy linen items, which always seem so nice and floaty and many of them are – BUT I’ve had a few duds arrive and they are never returnable, at least not in an easy way (and I feel bad doing so) and so now sometimes I shy away. I love this dress though and the colors and how it is customizable! Being short these sorts of pieces are tricky, though. Considering.

2. Another Danielle Steel piece (I could read endless pieces about her) via the WSJ, about her daily routine.

3. I loved this piece, via the NYT, about Karen Chen’s Olympic outfits, which her mother (!!) sews for her. As an Asian mom I can totally relate to do something which costs tons of $$ otherwise but I’d never be able to do this. I can’t even hem pants.

4. Akhil Sharma is one of my favorite writers, so I really enjoyed this New Yorker piece, about his passage to parenthood.

5. This week I read Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande.

I know… I think everyone has read this book by now besides me? I guess I resisted it because…I don’t know, maybe I thought it was a diet book or something. Which it is not, but rather an incredibly elegant examination on how we choose to die in America. If you’re looking for an excellent nonfiction read, I highly recommend Being Mortal.

I originally started my post with the below:

How are you all doing? It feels insane to be doing anything right now. I thought if I should still post today but I collected links about things, as I always do, and decided to still share. I do ask though that if you can to please watch this video, from the President of Ukraine addressing the Russian public directly (with English subtitles). I mean there is so much to read out there right now, so much worthwhile reporting and I don’t want to add to it – so only if you have the time (about 10 minutes). I cried watching it and I cried watching the videos of of protests in the streets of Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is so moving to see these acts of bravery.

Okay. I’m writing this on Thursday night and I wonder if Zelenskyy will be alive tomorrow (edit: as of Friday AM, he is). One more link, if you would like, is this thread on Reddit which compiles a lot of different ways you can donate to support Ukraine – I chose a war effort one and I think for a lot of these you don’t have full transparency but I’m OK with it. F*ck all this senseless violence and misery.

An attack on a democratic nation is unimaginable. Beijing and Moscow carefully watching the West’s responses to gauge their next conquests. Hoping for a win. Zeleskyy and his colleagues are a true heroes!
