Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A pretty pleated top from Frame, now 60% off (I also really like this sleeveless silk top, now 50% off), a cozy shacket from The Frankie Shop, now just $64 (!), a fun furry/crystal flat from Jimmy Choo, now 60% off, and a big cozy duvet puffer from Everlane, now just $150.

1. This week, I am shopping the entire Toteme sale on Ssense. There’s a lot!

Like the cable cardigan and tank set above. Or yummy crinkled silk scarves. Or this nice big furry alpaca sweater. You might want to wait for further discount on some – right now it’s between 25-30% on most pieces – but a good time to add some nicer basics.

2. I thought this piece, via Fashionista, was interesting, about the diminishing clout of the editor in chief.

3. I really liked this piece, via the NYT, about vintage gowns on the red carpet. What a great trend! And freaking gorgeous dresses.

4. A very true from Slate – The Agony of Parents With Kids Under 5. Yes it’s bad! That’s all I can say.

5. This week I’m reading Invisible Child, by Andrea Elliott.

This is a wonderfully written examination of urban poverty that reads like fiction. Child is the followup to Elliott’s NYT series on Dasani, a young girl growing up in the homeless system in New York. I don’t want to sound cheesy, but this is both an important book and one that is fascinating, easy to read through, and educating. I highly recommend Invisible Child.

Especially liked the EIC article. Back in the day I used to devour magazine after magazine as my guilty pleasure: W, Vogue, Allure, Glamour, InStyle, Vanity Fair. W, in particular, had these wonderfully dishy articles and other gossip. They have gone so downhill that I’ve more or less abandoned them unless they come with my Kindle Unlimited,

The article up there about parents with kids under 5. That’s us this week!! Sadly, omicron got us this week. My 4.5y/o had it first (he’ll be 5 in April..is it mean to take him for his vaccine on his bday? Ok, maybe day after. LOL)..fever that wouldn’t break with the usual APAP/Ibuprofen. Turns out 4 of the kids in his class that were all there Friday, are all out Monday sick. Thankfully, our symptoms were SO SO mild. We are one of the lucky ones. I work at the hospital, so I’ve seen it all. But yes, my son is bouncing off the walls, and he wants to talk to everyone b/c he’s bored (he facetimes my parents multiple times a day and they are sweet and chat with him every time). I’m working from home b/c I’m luckily able to, and don’t have to use PTO while quarantining. It’s been quite a week to say. But def scheduling that vaccine.

Thanks for the book suggestion. I thought the NYT series about Dasani was enlightening and wondered how she fared. Will definitely check it out.
My heart goes out to everyone with under 5 kids right now. I really hope a solution comes for them soon – nothing can be easy about the current situation.
