Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A simple bandana from Madewell, now under $8, a Theory t-shirt dress, now $76, a black bootie from Splendid, now $100 (sometimes I am very confused by Splendid’s assortment since I have paid like $75 for a cotton t-shirt from them and these are leather boots), and a gorgeous ribbed mockneck cashmere sweater from Everlane, now $93 (this is my favorite kind of cashmere that they have)

First – thank you all for your wonderful comments on the Earth post! I still intend to respond but the site itself has been having some wonky issues that I’ve been working to fix – thank you all again! And hope you had a great Halloween! OK – now:

1. What I like this week: this fun J.Crew Polartec fleece, now 30% off.

So I found this because I originally was very into this Veronica Beard fleece which I still am, but it’s like $400 and being in California in the land of free corporate fleeces I just couldn’t bring myself to pay the price. This J.Crew version is funky too which is what I want but way more friendly and I love the colors! It’s just starting to get cold where I am.

2. If you’re into food at all (or just interesting articles), I really recommend this piece, via The NY Times, on Jean George and his restaurants. One thing that I’ve learned is that anyone who is really successful on the creative side tends to work really, really hard. Such inspiration.

3. I admit it – bad food reviews are kind of my guilty pleasure. So another food piece today, instead of a fashion one. If you haven’t read it already (it’s been reposted everywhere) – this piece, The NY Times, rating Peter Lugers steakhouse in New York 0 stars.

4. Sharing this excellent (and long) article on the new Conde Nast. It’s really fascinating, especially if you have an interest in the media industry. I used to subscribe to Vogue but stopped . I still subscribe to The New Yorker.

5. This week, I read The Smartest Guys In The Room, by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind.

Wow. WHY had I never read this before? It is right up my alley. A big corporate scandal, lots of salacious details, and perfectly and expertly written. I’m hideously jealous that there is a blurb from WARREN BUFFET – this is the apex of my writer + business fantasies combined!!! If you liked Bad Blood, or Too Big to Fail, and especially if you liked both of them, or anything by Michael Lewis – The Smartest Guys In The Room is the book for you.
