Hello there! I hope you had a great weekend. I’m still catching up on a bunch of stuff that got neglected around my book launch (I did five loads of laundry on Sunday). A little update on some things that are going on in my corner of the world:

Pandemic: Like most everywhere else in the U.S. it feels like things are slowly going back to pre-Covid status. Except that our weekends aren’t as filled with things like kid’s birthday parties (though even those are coming back…kind of). I’m eating in restaurants more, too! Mostly outside. One strange thing after Covid: I do feel that my memory and logic have both been impaired…I will say something and realize it doesn’t make sense at all, etc. I can’t remember basic things. I also feel very tired from interactions (though my husband says I was always a misanthrope). How about you all? Are you feeling tired? Or energized to go out and enjoy life a little more after the last year?

Shopping: I bought another pair of my favorite Hermes sandals, the Oasis. In the most basic color (yes feel free to call me basic) but which I had always meant to purchase and never did! Here is my high level guidance on these shoes based on my experience: if you have high arches, the Orans (the flat versions of these) are so gorgeous and will be great. But if you have flat feet like me, the Oasis are so much more comfortable. Also, I’m between a 36.5 and 37 and a 37 in these fit me perfectly, but my toes are close to the edge. I know some people don’t like that look (they prefer more margin around the sole).

I also bought this Madewell dress but returned it – not really my style for some reason I can’t discern. But it could be your style! I got an XXS and it is VERY comfortable and roomy, even in the waist. There are embroidered daisies on the bottom! It’s a great dress so I wanted to share, even though it didn’t work out for me.

Kids: Are fine, my son will “graduate” kindergarten this year having not stepped foot into the classroom once. Oh well. I’m hoping for a better first grade experience for him. My daughter just started half day preschool so far and it’s going fine. I do feel bad that she’s wearing a mask the whole time and I’m not (since I’m working from home) – it just doesn’t seem fair. I would way rather I be wearing it and be the uncomfortable one, than her.

Finally….I tried to book some last minute travel this week. And it really seems like prices of skyrocketed, no? I was briefly contemplating a quick trip to Maui before I was informed that rental cars alone are going for over $1K a week. I’m happy places are opening again! And it seems like a lot of others are happy too 🙂

How are you doing?

I’ve been on the fence about these sandals for a while – they look nice, but seem like they would make a flapping sound as I walk, so I still haven’t succumbed… yet.

That’s what I am concerned with – that flap/clack as they hit the heel and then floor. I need a slight heel for my back, so pretty much every flat sandal is out.

It does feel like things are starting to get back to pre-covid. My husband and I considered Hawaii this summer but I’m starting IVF treatment and we’re sure of our schedule. We found out we will have a chunk between procedures without appts and my husband looked into booking but the prices are outrageous. And no rental cars available now.

    Hi Kathy,
I ordered a pair of the orans sandals but I found that they run quite wide and big. Im curious to hear your thoughts about the fit Hermes shoes. This is my first pair and the feedback on the PF has been mixed. Thanks!

The Orans never fit me right (but that’s also because I have flatter feet…sob). I would try the Oasis, which I have, if you have narrower feet. I find they are a little tighter. The best is to go to the boutique though, there are so many different styles!
