Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A classic pullover from Patagonia, now 25-40% off, a knotted leather tote from Madewell, now $197, a chic jean jacket from Madewell, now $67 with code BLOOMING, and a chic and simple cotton/linen v-neck sweater from Everlane, now just $38.

1. Today, sharing an easy t-shirt dress, from Treasure and Bond.

I love t-shirt dresses! They are one of my favorite things to wear in summer. I’ve become really picky about them so was happy to see this one. A nice material (50% cotton/50% modal, which sounds super soft), a not too short length, drop sleeves, which I love, and that tiny slit for some visual interest. And a nice price!

2. I love reading TV/film criticism, especially super smart, thoughtful pieces on what works and doesn’t, and this article, from Vulture’s film critic Angelica Jade Bastien about Amazon’s series Them, is really excellent. Bastien is consistently great.

3. Sharing this piece, via the New Yorker, on Glennon Doyle. Did you all read Untamed? I did. It was good but if we’re talking about books in that “genre” I liked Wild even more!

4. An insightful and somewhat infuriating piece from The Cut, about women who have left the workforce since Covid.

5. This week I read Blow Your House Down, by Gina Frangello.

This is the kind of book I know some people won’t want to read off the bat. It’s a memoir, from a woman (Frangello) who has an affair and leaves her husband and her entire life goes to pieces. It is filled with rage, and regret, and love and guilt and all of that. AND it is seriously well written. Frangello is super honest…to the point where sometimes you both admire her and are a little shocked. If you want to read a very well written but definitely emotionally charged memoir, I highly recommend Blow Your House Down.

    Hi Kat,
I know you like crime stories. If you have Netflix and the kids are away, watch The Serpent on Netflix. I can’t believe the story is eerily close to the real story. The real story is even more bizarre…The guy married to a Nepal lawyer 20 years younger than his daughter.
