Weekend Update

Big sale PSA today! and I’ll add more over the weekend (or at least try):

All Ray-Bans are 30% off (these are my current favorite), a pretty blouse from Ulla Johnson, now 30% off, this ultra-light long (!) down coat from Uniqlo, now $100, and the Theory Clairene jacket/coat, now 40% off (with an extra gift card offer on top – more colors here!).

Reformation is all 30% off: my favorites are this cotton pointelle top, this half zip sweatshirt, this adorable oversized baby alpaca sweater, and this organic cotton turtleneck. Sorry, no skimpy dresses for me right now!

Some more items from Matches: a gorgeous red tote from Dragon Diffusion, now $211, black boots from Ann Demeulemeester, now $400, and a beautiful cognac mini “Lady” bag from Mansur Gavriel, now under $500, all with code EXTRA10 on top.

Also: wow! All leather boots at Everlane are 40% off – including my favorite day boots in BLACK (I love these and have never seen them on sale!).

1. Happy Thanksgiving week, for those celebrating! I hope you all had wonderful celebrations last night with at least a few loved ones (and if not, because you decided not to travel, I sincerely thank you).

I feel it would be disingenous (at least to my own lifestyle) to share anything about a pair of waffle pajamas today. That is what I’ve been wearing mostly the entire week.

I actually like the top more than the matching pants (I think the pants are probably best on taller people). I won’t pretend that this is anything than it is – a cute top for lounging at home. But it’s pretty cute and I love the print! It also comes in solid gray and pink versions (pants here). Other picks from Madewell include this embroidered flower sweater and hybrid sherpa jacket.

2. An interesting piece via The New Yorker, on Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen.

3. A great article, via The Verge: Sex, Lies and Video Games. I did find the white font against black a little jarring after awhile. I wonder if others might have the same problem.

4. An essay from Lena Dunham, in Harpers: Giving Up On Fertility. I think Lena is a great writer. I know she’s always apparently stepping in it saying this and that but I always enjoy reading her.

5. This week I read Friends And Enemies, by Barbara Amiel.

This is a hard book to rate. I was excited to read it, especially after reading her juicy excerpts (see one here). The first half I would say is nearly perfect. Amiel (which I knew nothing about before) is a wonderful writer, very witty and smart and funny. Do I align with her political beliefs? No, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t find her interesting or intelligent. And she’s had a pretty incredible life.

That being said, the second half is entirely dedicated to the events before, during and after Conrad’s “downfall” and t’s kind of like…a friend telling you all the details of their breakup, but while they are still dealing with it, for a VERY LONG TIME, and instead of sordid cheating and bad behavior all the details are high finance. It got a little much after a while. AND I looked it up and apparently Conrad got pardoned (in the US) after he wrote a flattering book about Donald Trump which…..hmm. I could write forever about this book and its highs and lows but I’ll think I leave it here. If you like autobiographies, clever ones and are willing to tolerate (or skip) some long digressions into why Conrad was the best guy ever and totally didn’t deserve anything bad happening to him…I sincerely recommend Friends And Enemies. It was worth it for me.

Have a great weekend!

Oooh I read Barbara Amiel’s book as well and completely agree! My favorites were the excerpts and also the bits about jewelry.

Yes! I skimmed though parts of the book. I also wonder which of her friends are still speaking to her (she probably does not care?)
