Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A linen mini dress from Theory, now more than 60% off, pretty cushioned (!!) gold slides from Ancient Greek Sandals, now 50% off, a loose linen pullover from Uniqlo, now under $15, and a simple cotton cardigan from J.Crew, now just $30.

First off – I just wanted to thank you all for your comments, and messages after Monday’s post. I am REALLY behind on things in general – but I do read everything and if you have a question I haven’t answered, my apologies and feel free to ping me again. Here’s hoping for a break for all of us!

1. This week, sharing a sale find, a pretty asymmetric skirt from Sacai, now 50% off.

This is still full price at Saks! I love Sacai but find it too expensive – the designs are beautiful though, interesting and chic, and often comfortable too. This skirt is a classic one they do in different versions each season – I love how it is cut and how it is ELASTIC WAIST (very important).

2. An article for you personal finance fans – how fifteen windfalls changed people’s lives, via Topic. I like that there is a range in amounts here.

3. An overview, via the NY Times, about the Telfar/Gap/Yeezy controversy. I forgot where I read this but apparently Telfar was paid $100,000 for the collaboration. Seems pretty low, no? But I guess Gap’s argument is the “exposure”.

4. Sharing this piece, via Vulture – Is Anyone Watching Quibi? Are you? I’m fascinated by Quibi (as I think I’ve mentioned before). Give me more articles!

5. This week I read Open, by Andre Agassi.

This book was way better than I thought it’d be. I am not a tennis fan and do not have any thoughts on Agassi – so when I first started, I thought I’d probably get tired of it quickly. But after the first chapter, I was so enamored with the writing and story that immediately looked up the ghostwriter (which most celebrity/famous people memoirs have, and Agassi’s is excellent, J.R. Moehringer, who won a Pulitzer and who also helped with Shoe Dog). And I kept being interested throughout. Yes, there is a LOT of tennis (if you’ve actually watched the matches he speaks of I can see how it’d be fascinating) – and at times I got tired of it – but I never wanted to stop reading. Andre doesn’t always come off as likable, but in a way that made me like it more – it’s a rare thing, to read a memoir from someone who you don’t necessarily agree with, but want to keep going. If you love tennis, if you love sports or memoir or just a well written book – I highly recommend Open.

I kept checking but didn’t see your update the whole morning (I am on east coast). I was feeling panicky as I thought you might feel burned out and would take a little blogging break. I was so devastated!!
So relieved when I saw this new blog post.
Oh and the astrophysicist who spent her McArthur grant on childcare totally made me tearful.
    Happy weekend!

Oh you are so nice! I didn’t want to whine on the post but I ran out of time last night and so was frantically finishing it up this morning during my daughter’s nap. Have a wonderful weekend.

Agree!! I actually like to “save” reading posts for when I have a proper childfree break, which might be once a week or less but when I do have that opportunity the first thing I do is get a cup of coffee or tea and settle in to catch up on all your posts! Thank you for always taking the time to write these.
