Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A circle cardigan from Barefoot Dreams, now 25% off (yes my loungewear has been wearing out), pretty silk shorts from Reformation, now 30% off, and these great straight leg crop pants from Everlane, now $50 (I also use this tote all the time for traveling/beach, now $70).

1. Today sharing a pretty little silk/cotton dress from Rebecca Taylor, which is also 60% off:

Honestly, I’m getting a little sick of wearing sweat pants. Well, I also like it (because I’m comfortable) but it is kind of doing something to my self esteem after awhile I think. I’ve been looking at pretty but still comfortable dresses and skirts lately – I think I’ll likely indulge in at least one, so that I can look forward to sunny days ahead.

2. A behind the scenes look at what has been going with Rent the Runway’s warehouse workers, via The Huffington Post. I want to hear more about things like this. I want to know what brands to support (and not). Also – I do think when brands mess up, we can give them a chance to make amends- curious how RtR will navigate all of this.

4. An interesting article, via The NY Times, about how designers are trying to revolt against the shopping cycle. It makes sense, doesn’t it? I always wonder about the ROI of some of these fashion shows. Kind of sad but I think they probably do a lot better just sending a bunch of bags to influencers.

4. Have you heard of Alison Roman? Maybe you’ve seen one of her books on Instagram, like Dining In? An interesting piece in The Washington Post – The Rise and Fall of Alison Roman – PS, all this was sparked by an interview with Alison Roman, via The New Consumer

5. This week I read The Vegetarian, by Han Kang.

This had been on my list for a long time! I guess I held off because of all the translation kerfuffle. And I’m certain I missed out on aspects due to it but I have to say…this book is messed up (in a good way!). If you’re looking for some crazy good, but also plain hallucinatory, crazy, makes you think and all that reading (and you don’t necessarily need a super happy ending though that depends on what you think is happy, anyway) I highly recommend The Vegetarian.

    Hi, Kat

Have you seen the New York Times article about Japanese men and some of the changes (hopefully not temporary) in terms of housework as a result of COVID?

Love the bit about the husband who cites overseeing the toothbrushing as one of his contributions to the household 🙂

Thank you for continuing your blog. I really prefer the written blog to other forms of communication (like Twitter or Instagram), and am always happy to see a new write up from you

    Stay safe!

I hadn’t heard of Alison Roman until she was totally vicious about Marie Kondo and Chrissy Teigen and their businesses in her interview (Xin did a good post on it: http://www.invinciblesummerblog.com/2020/05/about-alison-roman-thing.html) and I’ve got no words for her.

That might be the best description I’ve seen of The Vegetarian 🙂 Makes me think about going back and reading it again!
