Weekend Update

1. A new addition to my fall/winter wishlist this week:this  excellent Joseph coat.

I have been searching for the perfect green coat for eons. It has to be just the right shade of green – forest/emerald, not too faded, not too bright. And this Joseph one looks excellent! I’m quite certain it will sell out in my size so I’ll probably pull the trigger soon at least to try; it’s just so hard to pay full price when it’s so hot out still.

PS: I first wanted to recommend this very nice macrame tote, under $50, from Topshop, but it keeps selling out. But recommended if you can grab it!

2. One of those fun, informative pieces that also has a good deal of smut (aka the best combination) – Sugar Daddies Explained, via GQ. And plus it’s by Taffy Brodesser-Akner. What more could you want?

3. Remember that piece by Vanessa Friedman last week about the current Vanity Fair “advertorial” cover with Michelle Williams? Here’s a great companion follow up, via Fashionista, about all the Louis Vuitton September issue covers currently out.

4. Do you think Philipp Plein will be around in ten years? A piece via Business of Fashion – How Philipp Plein Made Bad Taste Big Business.

5. This week I read I Capture The Castle, by Dodie Smith.

This has been on my list for at least a year and finally I got around to it. This book, about a pair of sisters who live in a decrepit castle in England, starts off a bit slow but I didn’t mind at all because the narrator is just so charming. And then the story developed – and I kept going, and going and going. It was unexpected, touching, romantic without being corny and when I finished this book, I had to read the last chapter again just to absorb it all. If you’re a Jane Austen fan, I think you would love this book. One of my personal favorites of the year, and I adored, I loved, I can’t recommend highly enough, I Capture The Castle.

TBA is my favorite essayist! I did a spit take when she covered the royal wedding.

Just curious with your two little ones and book coming out, how do you find time to read and finish a book each week? I can barely read through one book and I have time to read on my BART commute. Thanks.

It’s a terrible answer but I read before I sleep, and I don’t sleep as much as I’d like!

You must be a speedreader and are just humble about it. On top of that, your vocabulary must be up there…no need yo look up words, right? I still think your reading skills are awesome.

Like many commented, would really love tips (sounds like you have none, you just love reading) and can’t wait for your book to come out. I think you’ll be famous esp wth the lack of good American Asian books out there. The book reviews so far are great! So excited for you. Have a great weekend!

Gorgeous coat Kat! Love the color! My black cashmere wrap coat was the last one standing during my pregnancy. Would add another one with a different color.

Yay! I Capture the Castle was such a beautiful coming of age novel, like a messy intense less puritanical version of Little Women (which supposedly is going to be remade with Meryl Streep, Emma Stone Saoirse Ronan AND Timothee Chalamet!) Have you read Nancy Mitford’s novels (specifically Love in a Cold Climate and Pursuit of Love?)
