Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A pretty short camel wool blend coat from Joseph, now 30% off, a nice Sugar set from Fresh, now under $50 (I think this is where they get to OK value), a cashmere cardigan that would be great for layering from Vince, now 40% off, a cropped hoodie from Everlane, now $24, and cool glossed leather Chelsea boots, now 40% off.

1. This week sharing this gorgeous Toteme coat.

Why isn’t this on sale? Ahh. I’ve been following it for some time. And it’s almost sold out. There’s also a great camel version (also almost sold out).

I also wanted to ask your opinion – what do you think of these long wool coats? Too long? Too impractical? I love the look but not sure if it is for stumps like me. I think a few inches past my knee is the most I can do. But it looks good, no?

2. Sharing this wonderful (!!) piece, via The NY Times, about the Conde Nast magazine The World of Interiors. I really want to subscribe. But I don’t really have the time to add another magazine and I don’t to waste paper. Augh.

3. Another very interesting article, again via the NYT, what happens when a wedding influencer gets divorced. Do you remember this brand? I do!

4.. A fascinating and slightly enraging piece, via Jia Tolentino for The New Yorker, about Instagram face.

5. This week I read the book Wild Game, by Adrienne Brodeur.

So this was interesting. Memoir isn’t always my thing – especially on a very specific topic, like this one, which is basically about the affair Brodeur’s mom has when she is a teenager – and yet the book was quite compelling to me. I also think this is an interesting book if you are a child of divorced parents (like me). If you like memoir, or books with a sort of moody Cape Cod/Long Island/Bostonian sort of feel, I recommend Wild Game.

I remember looking at that wedding dress brand! I think the main business shuttered right around the time I was searching for a simple white silk dress. Instead I wore the first dress a friend made me try on, off-the-rack The Row. Despite the proliferation of “cool wedding” brands it was still easier to find something minimal and well-made (and weirdly less expensive) in RTW than in the wedding dress shops.

Hi Kat, I’m sorry to ask you this, but would you mind deleting my comment above? My picture showed up when I posted and I cannot seem to undo it. Thank you.

Hi AS – done! and I hope you don’t mind I pasted your original comment above.

I loved the article on The World of Interiors. I’ve been a magazine junkie since I was about 13 and my mother gave me my first subscription to Seventeen. (You’re probably too young to remember it.) I focused mostly on style/fashion for a long time but slowly moved into shelter magazines, where I have remained. The World of Interiors offers peeks into a wide variety of homes….and the ways the owners live.

I now download them onto their app on my iPad. I also download Vogue Living (Australia) since my B&N no longer carries it. A plus is that you get to see them sooner! Not to mention, you can save them without having a pile on a shelf. I get an email when the newest issue is available.
