And I also like this pullover

Today I’m reviewing two recent purchases! I feel like recently when I have these posts it’s often with these two brands. But yeah, because I love them! Anyway, I just received a trench from Elizabeth Suzann’s new Cold Weather collection, and so wanted to review as I know many people are interested, and then also wanted to add an Everlane tote, which I think will be very useful as well.

Okay – let’s go! My first addition – the Clyde Trench in Wool, in size XXS, from Elizabeth Suzann.

So first – I’m a fairly recent arrival to the Elizabeth Suzann brand, I love her stuff and her ethics, but haven’t been familiar with the brand too long. Maybe a little over a year or so. She recently announced she was introducing wool – I was doing laundry, I remember, about a month ago, and bought my impulsively ordered this trench from my phone on that Monday morning – and a few minutes later she was sold out for the week! The brand has a certain number of garments it can sew each week and once it reaches capacity that’s it. The week wool was introduced, it sold out in like ten minutes! And then I had to wait weeks for the coat to be sewn and delivered. So obviously anticipation was high.

First impressions: this trench is really lovingly sewed and crafted. The fabric is so thick and lush (wool/alpaca mix) and super duper warm. The color is lovely but I would have honestly loved a slightly deeper camel – however it’s versatile and I think looks great on a variety of skin tones.

I’m also wearing flats – I know I had a request from fellow shorties for more photos with flats, so here we go! Here are my new Princetowns that I got when Nordstrom was having their gift card promotion.

Ha, now back to heels. My current favorite ankle boots (Everlane Boss). And a view of the back of the trench). Again, I took size XXS – it fits very well with just a t-shirt underneath (probably how I would likely wear it since I’m in California) – and it still fit okay with a sweater underneath – however, if I were to do it again, I would probably take size XS. I’m still debating if I might want to exchange for it. The only issue is the wait.

For me, the reason why I chose the trench – the pockets. I love, love the big pockets on Elizabeth Suzann’s Clyde series. I have the jacket and I wear it all the time and stick my phone and keys in it and go out with no bag. I’m also thinking about whether I exchange this coat for just a linen trench.

Some additional notes – I tried this trench on with a variety of clothes, and it does shed. Not horribly but I was wearing leggings and the coat did leave some little fibers. I would expect this would get better over time.

Also – occasionally I had a TINY bit of itching on my neck. I’m quite sensitive to wool and this is the softest wool I’ve tried – it’s really, really soft but there were times that I knew the coat was there, if you know what I mean. I think it also has to do with how the collar lies – it has a big, dramatic collar that rises high on the tech, so it touches your skin even if you’re wearing layers underneath (unless you’ve got a turtleneck).

Next up: reviewing the Everlane Renew Traveler Tote.

So I was interested in this tote because I’m always interested in big bags. Especially big, super light bags, that I can stash in places and don’t have to be too precious with. As soon as I saw this Everlane tote I knew I wanted to try it – I love the color, it’s a great material, and it folds up into nothing!

The Everlane already has photos showing what fits inside (and I’m lazy) so I didn’t do a “what fits inside” post (go to the Everlane site, to the video, if you want to see its interior capacity as well as how to roll it over and tie it up into a tiny little roll). It does fit amply a laptop, jacket, smaller crossbody bag, and other goodies.

It also fits very easily over the shoulder, and the leather straps are comfortable. In my opinion, this is a great alternate option to the classic large Longchamp Le Pliage – the same easy foldability (the Longchamp is a little easier to fold up) but the Everlane has the advantage of an outside zip (so easy for traveling for tucking things like passport, etc AND an inside zip pocket. Winner winner winner! And its not as ubiquitous as the Longchamp.

One more photo – showing the two bags side by side so you can see how their sizes compare.

Okay – here were some of my recent purchases! What do you think? If you’re an Elizabeth Suzann fan, did you get anything wool?

Wow I am on the hunt for a long cardigan that’s more like a coat, and this looks amazing. I usually prefer cashmere, but I think you do too and you seem happy with this non-cashmere option. It looks gorgeous! the tote I feel uncertain about – do you think it’s as chic as the longchamps? The quality?

I have that same everlane boss boot in black and LOVE it. I have been so close to buying the Acne Jensen bootie many times but this won out and is amazing.

I tried these madewell jeans from your previous post but I didn’t like how they felt a little bit flimsy. That said they were very comfortable and, like all Madewell jeans, made me feel like a babe :).

The tote- I do think it’s as chic (kind of even chicer) – the one thing I can’t speak to is the wear, because I’ve had my LC for more than a decade and it still looks GREAT, whereas this tote is new. I have another review coming up of another coat that should be a little like a cardigan (hopefully) in a few weeks!

Hi Kat, looks like its a very nice quality coat but are sleeves supposed to be short?

They are shorter than I thought they’d be! They have a nice seam allowance to let out hems but I wish they were a little longer to start with. They are supposed to be cropped.

I think they would look 100% better if they are a bit longer

I ordered the ES Reese sweater in charcoal…just a week ago, so I don’t have it yet. I hope the size is right…I have had many issues with their sizing, although they have been more than accommodating as far as returns and exchanges.

Yes me too with the sizing issues – I feel bad as I also return/exchange but I wish the sizing was more consistent!

Yum, I’d love to be wrapped in that coat all day, everyday in this season. The color and the fit looks great on you, both XXS and XS would work, but I’d probably go for XS if in between. I’d love to get their cocoon coat.
For the Madewell jean, do you need to go down 1 or 2 sizes? Tks.

I took size 25 – I’m a true size 24 but lately always size up for comfort 🙂

Love love LOVE the coat on you! I know you have mentioned the brand several times, and I just haven’t felt like I have the aesthetic to pull off the look although it’s very chic on you. I will be eyeing this coat now though…
