Recent Purchases – Everlane, Elizabeth Suzann, Aritzia

Sale PSA: A fun clear tote from Madewell, now $47, a funnel neck sweater in a great “nutmeg” color from Eileen Fisher, now $173, this adorable! bobble sweater, also from Madewell, now 25% off (I also am tempted by these leopard slippers), and a great merino dress from Uniqlo (which I’ve posted before on the blog, in a weekend update!) now under $40.

Also! I have had the flu for the last week (and was solo parenting, if you “know” me you already know this, because I’ve been complaining endlessly) so missed the Sephora sale! Today’s the last day I think and here are some picks – the ever popular Drunk Elephant Protini, Sunday Riley’s Good Genes (I know about the faked reviews but I genuinely like this!), and whoa I I just realized one of my favorite lipsticks from Bite Beauty is 50% off (before discount!). I wonder if they are discontinuing?

Today – a quick review post! I am kind of behind on these and actually have a few that I need to do (including a bag, yay) – today I’m consolidating a few of my recommended recent purchases, all in a big post! Here we go!

First up: the Everlane Cashmere Tee. I’ve had this for about a month now. This is a great “elevated” basic and perfect for fall/winter. It’s lovely and cozy and what I would wear on a fall day under a thin outer layer like the Aritzia trench, reviewed below. Super soft, for those days a t-shirt is too little…I actually have a lot of thin cotton tees, like these Madwell ones, which is why this thicker tee appealed to me! I took XS because I don’t like my sweaters too tight. Above, you can see it tucked – it’s a nice length to be tucked as it isn’t too long and there’s not tons of extra fabric.

And then a quick picture, untucked. I actually think I’ll wear this untucked as I’m lazy and it isn’t too long. Perfect length, actually! Just a tiny bit of a crop. Also just realized my boots are also Everlane, from last year, the Day Boot.

Next: the Aritzia Lawson trench. Which you can see above. I’ve been looking for a soft, easy trench coat for ages. In fact, I was with a friend shopping for The Row the other day (this happens for me about once a year now – actually going out and shopping with a friend!) and I told her that sometimes I feel that I’m very stupid, going out and looking to spend big big $$$ on designer items, all in quest for that “perfect” whatever, only to know that it’s probably at Aritzia. So then we went to Aritzia after and there it was! The perfect trench. I have tried all sorts of trenches over the years – the classic Burberry, the Saint Laurent, etc etc. Only to realize that I’m not the sort of person to wear a trench all done up, I’m too lazy and messy and preferred the open look. And preferably without a belt, but with pockets. So this Aritzia coat has it all. Yes, I have some quibbles – the material, I wish it were better – it’s lyocell I think, and I wish it were something a little nicer, maybe a cotton twill. I also wish it were fully lined. However, I think I will get a ton of wear out of this and it was sub $200. Length is also nice.

Elizabeth Suzann Andy trousers, in silk. Also seen above. Love these! So comfortable. My first silk item in any color but black from this brand, taking little baby steps, just because I love this moss color so much (it’s like a dark gold!). I take an XXS in her linen pants but generally an XS in her silk because they have less “give”. The XS are sooo comfortable too, it really is like wearing pajamas. I always feel very special wearing Elizabeth Suzann silk.

Everlane Merino Rib Polo. Another Everlane item! Which I really like too, but I have a thing for polos and was looking for a sweater polo for AGES (I actually found one, on deep discount from J.Crew two years ago, but that’s about it). So when I saw this I had to try it. I also took an XS in this one – especially because it is a body conscious style, I didn’t want it super tight (aka gut enhancing). I like it best tucked in because I have a short torso.

And then, a few items I didn’t keep but which I think merit a mention:

Topshop Utility Shirtdress (now on sale!! for $43). Something I bought but didn’t end up keeping. But wanted to share in case it is helpful. I really liked the style of this dress HOWEVER am just too short for it – the belt was just a *tad* too low for my liking, makes me look stumpier than I already am. The material is viscose – not the greatest, but I liked the style enough to want to try it out. It isn’t super wrinkly (this photo is out of the box, no ironing). I took the smallest size, size 2, and it’s still pretty generous but the height is good, no hemming needed! I think this would be the perfect easy work dress for anyone 5’3 and up.

And then, finally: Uggs. Yes! I keep trying Uggs, because I like to be cozy, and now that I work from home, I truly have no one to impress. I have Ugg slippers already but I really want outdoor boots so bought this McKay pair and actually really liked them. They were soft, and not so clumpy looking, and actually decently flattering (at least for me). However my foot kept stepping out of them, no matter what I tried, even when I tried thick socks. So I had to return them. Still searching for my perfect pair.

All right! So that’s what I’ve bought and liked lately. Wishing you all a wonderful week (and please share your recent purchases as well!).

Did you not get a flu shot, or did you get the flu anyway. If you didn’t get it…I highly recommend it.

    Two things:

I find Elizabeth Suzanne to be kind of boring. I have some of her stuff but get bored with her style very quickly. How do you mix things up with her pieces?

I’ve been eyeing one of the Burberry trench coats for some time, but cannot seem to justify the price tag. That is most likely due to never having had the chance to examine the quality in real life and I do tend to purchase items full price if the quality is worth it. Is the quality worth a $2000 price tag?

SO first – I am a boring person haha so I like her pieces! Which ones do you have? When I get bored I always reach for the silk, they always feel special. On Burberry – at the moment no (in my opinion) as they are going through a transition with designer, etc. I would “wait and see” and maybe get something less expensive from Everlane, etc if you need a trench.

I have all of EZ Clyde pants and skirts (but discontinued) because I love the pockets! I really like the quality of her linen so tend to purchase those. Maybe the silk pieces are more versatile…

Please keep posting about outerwear! I think a girl can never have enough classic outerwear.

Bite beauty is changing their lipstick formulation to be vegan, so if you like the formula now, you might want to stock up.
