What’s Your Jewelry?

Lately I’ve been itching for a new piece of jewelry (what’s new). For the longest time I found myself attracted to, and buying, rings. I am/was a ring person. I just think there are so many beautiful designs and fun things you can do with a ring. And, they’re fun to look at. The other day I was with a friend who is an earrings person, and she said that her salesperson said that rings are for ourselves, and earrings are for other people (since we can’t really see them). You can feel them though, can’t you? Especially when they’re dangling. Anyway.

Ole Lynggaard (my current obsession)

About eight years ago, I started to get eczema on my fingers and between them. And then on certain days/weeks it became almost impossible to wear rings without  irritating my skin. Also in between having kids and gaining and then losing weight, somehow I feel like half the year now my fingers are a little larger than they used to be, and half they are thinner, and I have to switch all my rings around.

So I became a necklace person. As I said in my earlier post about being short…I like long necklaces. They’re my favorite because I think they hit at a flattering spot and I can play with them. But then I had kids and now they like to pull and yank and plus there were several terrifying instances where I was bending over in the car to get something, quickly rose up, and my necklace caught on something, and I nearly ripped it off (I’m not the only person this has happened to, right?).

Then I moved onto earrings. But you know…for some reason I can never get too excited about them, probably because I can’t see them. And all the ones I really love are monstrously expensive. And then I go down the path of “well, I should just get one really GOOD pair of nice BIG studs,” and then the definition of BIG keeps increasing and increasing, and the numbers are frightening. And thus so far, I’ve haven’t become a real “earrings” person.

Then I switched to bracelets. But sometimes they are hard to type with. So I’ve been searching for one that is both comfortable, chic, and a little more unusual. I think this might be next.

I’d love to hear: are you a ring person? Or bracelet? Earrings? Necklace? Or…all of the above? And what’s your rationale?

I’m such a necklace and earrings person that I feel naked on the rare days I forget to wear one or the other. I guess they’re both pieces that I can’t really see, but I like feeling their weight, and I have a habit of toying with them when I’m deep in thought.

Good point about the weight. I like some nice “weight” (But also complain when it is too heavy, I’m impossible)

    Good morning!
I love jewelry but don’t like to switch them often. I tend to wear my new pieces for months without giving too much thought until my next purchase. I wear a dainty 14k gold necklace, a pair of 14k stud earrings and a 18k gold bracele all day and sleep without taking them off.
Have you tried those silicone rings? I might try one on my ring finger for those carefree summer days.

I haven’t tried those silicone rings but have seen them! That’s a good idea for the summer days.

I am an Elsa Peretti “groupie”. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, other accessories….whatever strikes me. The one piece I wear almost daily is the medium bone cuff. I’ve always favored sterling over gold, so my rationale was that I can buy a lot, because it’s so economical compared to gold.
However, if I ever decided to buy gold pieces, I would apply my New Favorite Rationale: my age…(if I don’t do it now, when will I do it?….whatever “it” may be). Adopted 3 years ago, when I turned 65. It works beautifully for me.

I love Elsa Peretti as well. I love all the classic T designers – Schlumberger, Paloma, Peretti.

Im a VCA addict! It’s hopeless. I love collecting necklaces/pendants, bracelets (yes even though I find them uncomfortable), earrings and also rings. I feel recalling naked unless I’ve got on at least earrings and a necklace, my everyday watch and my wedding band and engagement ring. For mother other occasions like lunch/dinner/shopping dates, weekends…I wear a right hand ring and throw on my bracelet stack!

I like it all, rings, bracelets, earrings – with necklaces being my least favorite. I am also a big watch girl – my most recent purchase a Rolex Submariner which I alternate with my Rolex Datejust. I just love a big men’s watch on a small wrist. Diane, I like the way you think!

I also love big watches on small wrists. Back in the days when I wore watches, I always wore men’s.

I’m a jewelry addict. So much so that I’m always on the hunt for pieces that I can “live in”. I stack cuff bracelets on my right arm and never take them off. They’re snug/adjustable and don’t clank around. I wear stud earrings with a low profile so I can sleep in them. Continuous hoops are comfy too. My rings are all bezel set. No prongs! Smooth and comfortable. They become your signature pieces so I tend to choose bolder/memorable items. Over time my jewelry has become nicked and scratched with a soft patina. I love that look.

I love all jewelry! That being said, I tried on watches at the Cartier Mansion in NYC this weekend and I am wondering if I am maybe turning into a watch gal. I was looking for a La Dona (which is discontinued) or a Crash (will have to find at auction) to try on, but ended up looking at Tanks–Solo, Francaise, and Anglaise. I also tried on the Panthere in steel, so very gorgeous. Really like a bracelet/watch, the bracelet is that beautiful, with a fabric-like quality to those links. Love the small face too! I am a little annoyed that VCA raised their prices again and that every single thing in the 50th Anniversary set is so hugely out of my price range (why does it all have to be with pave?) so I may start looking more at watches, which seem so practical, and yet beautiful too. I think I was pretty influenced by visiting with Jackie’s Cartier Tank watch at Christie’s before it went to auction last year!

I am a bangles/bracelets gal. I own a few quite unique 23k gold pieces that my mother in law gifted me. I love wearing shirts with sleeves rolled up so the bangles really show. They give me so much joy! I used to really love big earrings but there comes the baby and there went the big earrings…

I love all kinds of jewelry as long as the style is good – ever since I was young I couldn’t resist sparkly things. As I type a lot, I shy away from bracelets. Have you tried the longer chaine d’ancre necklaces from Hermes?i really like their sterling silver. It’s sturdy and really has resisted tarnishing. I got the shortest long one and it’s a great length (I’m 5’2”).

I love jewelry and wear them daily, earrings, necklace, bracelet, ring and watch. If I go bare minimum, then earrings are a must as they will just brighten the face. I go through a cycle, crazy over bags, then shoes, jewelry, watch, costume jewelry and it never ends.

I’ve always been an earring person, maybe because it drove my mom nuts whenever I got a new piercing. I preferred simple studs when I had long hair, but I started to embrace statement earrings after I got a pixie. When your ears are exposed all the time, earrings can easily become the focal point of an outfit. I tend to avoid rings & bracelets because they get in the way of typing and writing, but I never leave the house without a watch.

I type a lot on the keyboard and having bracelets doesn’t get in the way for me. I am a bracelet/bangle girl. I love Between the Finger right hand rings but they are not practical when you have young ones. I only like pendant necklaces where the chain is 18″ in length. Anything more is not me at all. As much as I love VCA Alhambra bracelets, I always worry about them getting damaged or getting caught so that’s why I prefer bangles. Besides my Love bracelets, my most worn bracelet is H’s H d’Ancre bracelet.

I’m an every type of jewelry person. I love them all.

I have a lot of earrings and rings mostly, and a few everyday necklaces. I guess I have the least bracelets but I still wear one every single day.

I can’t wear earrings because my lobes are allergic to everything, so I am a rings and bracelets person. I went through a huge rings phase where I had the first knuckle rings and everything. like eight (delicate) rings at a time. Now I wear three or four, Hermès rose gold and Cathy Waterman, which were my engagement bands.
All my bracelets are either hippie beads with supposed mystic qualities or some version of the Hermès CDC, usually the slim silver version with rose gold but sometimes a full cuff. I’m known at work for always having some version of that cuff on.
I did recently discover that I can pierce my upper ears so there is a new area to shop for 😉

I always wear the jade pendent from my grandma so I don’t change necklace often. I love ring too but sadly, the size of ring just keeps growing (like my cloth size ) and I’m tired of enlarge my existing ring. So I tend to like bracelet more because even though my wrist may grow a bit I can still fit in most of my bracelet.

I always wear pearl studs (fairly cheap-y ones from Amazon because I wear them 24/7 and don’t want to feel bad about losing them) and a diamonds by the yard pendant, which was a law school graduation gift from my mom. I really like the idea of expanding my jewelry collection, but am pretty “lazy” about things like switching to other earrings, or putting on more pieces.
