Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Chic utility boots from Everlane, now $111, short rainboots from Hunter, now 60% off, cropped pajamas from J.Crew in a nice soft cotton, now $44, and fun plaid leggings from Theory (Clueless, anyone?) now 40% off.

1. This week, I am liking this tote from Loewe very, very much.

I like everything about this (except the price). The colors, which basically mean that it will go with all neutrals, and everything. The slight wool/cotton mix (which I assume makes it a little more sturdy). The adjustable straps! Even the size is perfect, I think – not that HUGE beach tote look.

2. Sharing this article, via Vanity Fair, about what happened with Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Really fascinating in light of everything that’s come out about Joss Whedon.

3. Many of you know how much I loved Andre Leon Talley’s memoir, The Chiffon Trenches. So this article, which was excellently done, via the NYT, was both a fascinating follow up and somewhat sad to read.

4. An oldie but very interesting goodie, via GQ: The Great Chinese Art Heist.

5. This week I read Dominicana, by Angie Cruz.

This novel tells the story of a fifteen year old who is basically forced to move from the Dominican Republic to New York, to marry a man much older than her, in order to support her family. And I really liked it. Very well written, with a great plot that moves. Read this if you’re looking for a plot to get lost in, and a protagonist to root for, with great writing to boot. I highly recommend Dominicana.

Thanks for posting that AT article. I agree it’s very sad. I felt the same way about his memoir, which I read as soon as it was released. He has lived this spectacular life filled with amazing people, experiences and things. But my takeaway from the book is that he doesn’t have any true friendships. It all came across as so empty and people were only kind to each other to the extent that doing so was useful or held the promise of a future favor. I felt bad for him after reading it and I feel bad for him now. Not really about the house. Just more so that all these stories paint the same empty picture.

You said it perfectly, all of it. I hope he finds a peaceful situation soon, and I agree with you I feel bad but not necessarily about the house – it doesn’t seem like the Blahnik partners are the bad guys either.
