Weekend Update

Sale PSA: As you’ve heard all over the web, the Nordstrom sale is now open to the public. I don’t have a card, so this is when I’m going to shop. Some additional picks: these Cole Haan booties/sandals, now under $100, everyday walking sandals from Kork Ease, now under $80 (I’m quite tempted actually, as an alternative to the Birkenstocks), and a great Bobbi Brown Lip Tint set, now $34 (I’m buying this! It’s literally two for the price of one).

Elsewhere: A sleeveless silk dress from Everlane, now $84, a simple and pretty crepe chiffon dress from Rebecca Taylor, now $142, and a very cool tiger print dress from Saloni, now $210.

1. Are there shops you used to go to, which you haven’t gone for years? For me, that’s H&M. I used to like it quite a lot but the stores got too overwhelming – I’ve recently been shopping for some resort items though, and have found H&M to be a great resource. Like for items like this dress, all cotton, for $40.

I think this is where H&M really excels. Because a dress like this would be a lot more from another brand. Simple cut, all cotton, comfortable, breezy. A little worried about the crosshatch in the front but nothing a bra won’t fix.

2. A piece, via SMCP, about all the young Chinese students having plastic surgery before college. I have to admit I’m fascinated by plastic surgery. Who wouldn’t want to be more beautiful? I’m terrified of complications though and also given that I have a daughter I wouldn’t want her to think that it’s normal to be dissatisfied with your face.

3. This is the most on brand GOOP piece ever, via The NY Times, about how GOOP employees dress.

4. Sharing this little article, via Vanity Fair, about the MAGA invasion in the Hamptons.

5. This week, I finished Bad Marie, by Marcy Dermansky.

So I usually try not to recommend books by the same author too close in time (I just recommended Very Nice, by Dermansky, a few weeks ago). However, I just really loved this book and so had to recommend it right away. It was so charming, so propulsive, the writing was great and witty…the only warning I’d give is if you don’t like “bad” characters, if you don’t want your protagonists to do bad things, don’t read this book! Otherwise, go for it. I read it in two sittings and then flipped to the end to read the acknowledgments (something I always do now after writing my own) and saw that my editor, Kate Nintzel, edited this book too! So cool! If you like “dislikeable” protoganists, if you’re okay with a “bad” girl, I highly, highly recommend Bad Marie.

    Hi Kat,

A little out of topic, but with the Nordstrom sale and beauty events coming up, could you share what skin creams etc you use? You have such beautiful skin…it glows and no blemishes! Would love to know what products you use.

H&M clothes are not well made and are often made in sweatshops. Perhaps a women like you who shops luxury and is privileged, can avoid such purchases and given them a platform on your blog ?

    Hi Kat
I just wanted to call in and say how much I’m enjoying your book. I’ve followed your blog for a couple of years and love your voice. When I saw your book in my local book store ( in Geelong – a smallish town in regional Australia) recently, I grabbed it and am really loving it. It’s sunday afternoon here and I’m on the couch with a gin and tonic, your book and a bag of popcorn (in my pyjamas) pure bliss! Thankyou!
