Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Simple sandals from The Row, now 60% off, the cheeky jean from Everlane, now $77, easy patent sandals from Sam Edelman, now just $60, and cool Hanro track pants, now just $45 (!).

1. This week, sharing these flat sandals from Havianas.

I like these! I’ve been looking for the simplest of flip flops with just a little bit of a lift, and think that these will do the trick. The only issue I have with Havianas is that they don’t have any arch support. But better for me at this point than splurging on the Ginzas.

2. Thank you to the anon commenter who shared this NY Post article about sales associates wearing clothes. I kind of suspected this happens but it’s a good reminder to wash everything.

3. I really enjoyed this article, via Vogue HK, on the various sorts of leathers. Good info! I wish Vogue had more pieces like this.

4. I wonder what you think of this NYT piece about dressing for travel at the airport. What do you think? Personally I am fine with Crocs and Birkenstocks on the plane!

5. This week, I read Kitchen, by Banana Yoshimoto.

I loved this. It’s been on my list for a while but I hadn’t gotten around to it- the writing is lovely and thoughtful and delightful. If you’ve liked Japanese/South Korean fiction in the past, I highly recommend Kitchen.

Thank you for the leather article! And for reminding me I need to read more Yoshimoto Banana!

As for air travel attire, i just want to be comfy and practical. I can’t imagine a bathrobe is practical haha. But I will vigorously recommend wearing chacos (or similar sandals) with thick socks. Socks keep your feet cozy and you don’t have to be barefoot during TSA screening! And You can take them off right before landing if you’re headed to warm climes! The sandals can be adjusted if your feet swell.

I have the same complaint about havianas, so I moved to ipanema, which is more comfortable and more stylish.

The Havianas are very late 90s/early 00s Jen Aniston. In a good way, obvi!

Ooh Havianas – such a throwback. The sole was so satisfyingly squishy. There’s something wrong with my feet or I’m getting old….I can’t walk three steps in them anymore :(. They look good though!
