Seeking Inspiration/Distraction

Sale PSA: A cashmere crew from Everlane, now $84, fun rainboots from Chloe, now 50% off, the perfect oversized jean jacket from Madewell, now 20% off, and a packable down jacket from Herno, now $417 (I know this is men’s but I would be tempted to try it for myself).

I started a post this weekend that talked about some style stuff I’ve been thinking about but I just couldn’t finish…I mean, I could have, but I wouldn’t have really felt any of it. So I just took a pause and let it in drafts.

There is so much going on right now and sometimes we just need some distraction, something else to focus on…but lately I find very little inspiration on the style/lifestyle front from my usual sources. If I am being honest I stopped paying attention to most Instagram posts from big style/celebrity accounts years ago, but lately many have actually started to feel irritating to me. A little out of touch? Or kind of just…stale? Of course the moment you start feeling like everything is out of touch is usually when you are the one who is out of touch. So that is probably the case. Anyway.

I would like to find some more style inspiration. I have recently started to read some of my super old back issues of Vogue, Vanity Fair, etc. And following some online style threads (including The Fashion Spot!! remember that?) of certain celebrities like the Olsens, etc. And looking up old vintage photos of Maggie Chueng (like the one above). And that has been fun.

Anyway, this is a short post: seeking style inspiration. Where are you finding yours? Any IG accounts you recommend? Or other destinations? Books? Magazines?

I’ve been looking in movies. Maggie Chueng‘s in the mood for love is incredible in terms of style (not practical but then I’m not looking for practical). Also rewatching I am love.

I don’t really dress that way (….yet) but my IG faves are accounts with lots of linen, wool sweaters, niche women’s brands, layering.. IG account ahistoryofarchitecture /Erica Kim is awesome. Her layering reels are fun and her stories are full of beautiful pieces.

I could not agree more that the big major style stars feel out of touch. My fave, aside from you, is 9tochic.com (Anh, also lives in the bay area) and she was actually the first blogger I found back in 2010.

But this year I am focusing mostly on experiences and finding inspiration in my own closet, because I hope to buy as few things as possible, maybe, hopefully none. !!

Kdramas and kpop! I’m really enjoying it, even the men’s fashion is interesting to me. Also love that there are so many sites and IG accounts identifying the brands and styles worn.

I haven’t been feeling it lately either. I’m not sure how inspirational it is, but I’ve been re-visiting my old clothes that I haven’t worn in awhile due to Covid, lifestyle changes, etc. Re-styling certain pieces has been fun and I like my old stuff more than I like a lot of the new stuff out there right now.
