The Gucci Jackie Bag

Sale PSA: A great wool blazer from 3.1 Phillip Lim, now 60% off, a chore jacket from Everlane, now $66, and an elegant shirtdress from Uniqlo, now under $30.

Hi! First, before the rest of the post, I want to say up front that I didn’t keep this bag. I hemmed and hawed for a solid 24 hours, before deciding to return it. I have always admired the classic Gucci “Jackie” bag – I love the shape and have always taken note each time the house reissues the design. I never bought it however, because I always found the shape a little bit mature – but finally I saw this green color and it was love.

So I ordered. And it came. Very pretty color in person…lots of blue mixed in with this green shade. Gucci calls it “Emerald.”

By the way, this was my first time ordering Gucci online from their store – and their online packaging is very nice. I like how the inside of the cardboard box is lined with the same print as the box (I feel like I’m doing a YouTube unboxing video…insert random chatter here).

One other detail I appreciated – that they don’t include a standard paper shopping bag, but rather a big reusable fabric tote instead!

Okay, onto the bag. I LOVE the color. It’s such a wonderful shade of green. And I love how it looks on the shoulder (please ignore my pajama dress, and all other clothes worn in this post – I didn’t think I would share these pics, it was just to help me decide whether to keep it).

I bought this thinking I would mainly use it as a shoulder bag. Though actually I think the Jackie, due to it’s short handle (I have it extended to the longest length) really looks best hand held, which is the way you’ll see it in a lot of social media shots.

A quick shot of the interior. There’s a single zip pocket on the slide, a single open flap pocket on the other side, and then it’s just one open compartment – and the bag is small enough that things stay pretty organized. I could fit my phone, keys, small makeup bag, and sunglasses in this. But not much more.

And then one more shot, crossbody – because oh yes, I haven’t mentioned it yet, but the bag actually comes with a longer strap which you can connect to the shorter strap, to make it crossbody! I had thought I would never use this feature and so took off the strap right away when I received the bag – before I packaged it up for return though, I decided to try it out to show you all, and I actually really like it. It’s a very nice look. And makes the bag more versatile. PS- shirt is Everlane breton.

Okay, now that I’ve sung its praises, why did I decide not to keep the bag? I think for me it really came down to usability – I loved the color and the look, but I didn’t feel like “me” when I wore it. I guess it just seemed a little too conservative in style in for me. What is ironic is that if I were in my twenties and didn’t have kids I would probably keep it – I can see it going so well with lots of little dresses, etc. At this stage in my life however, I need to stuff lots of items, and the little lock clasp was also getting in the way of me quickly jamming my hand in to grab stuff – which I thought would likely annoy me down the line. AND I have too many bags. So in the end, I returned it.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a beautiful, classic bag with really beautiful quality, I highly recommend the Jackie bag. In all colors. I’m missing it a little bit now, looking at the photos. Argh!

Also, PS: If I were looking for an evening bag, I think I would be very tempted to keep this in black – very versatile that way (imagine taking it to travel, and wearing it crossbody in the day, and then short strapped at night). Very very cool! And the price is nice too. Gucci did a NICE job with this design.

Very pretty bag — the color reminds me of Hermès blue paon, which is beautiful. I’d probably go with the Hermès Trim instead — it’s the original design Gucci copied — either the Trim Duo 24 or larger Trim 31, which would hold more.

Oh… but that’s a very nice pajama dress! I’m a sucker for button down dresses. May I ask where it’s from?

Beautiful bag! But don’t you already have the Hermes Trim?

What a pretty color. How does this compare to the Hermes Trim bag?

I am a Trim collector but bought the Jackie in black for a more structured look. I love the small size – it is great for when you go out to dinner but you want something a little larger than a WOC. Then I ordered the larger one in black and white and sent it RIGHT back – it instantly aged me 10 years. So I think the small size is great (albeit not practical if you are running around with little kids; mine are bigger and carry their own stuff) but I don’t like the larger version even though it would be SUPER practical to have a bag that size!

Ooh that is very helpful feedback! I was interested in the larger one too, for more size, but that’s a great point about the aging!
