Weekend Update

Sale PSA: A simple half zip from Varley, now $96 (a commenter recommended this as a great piece of loungewear but I can’t figure out who – thank you!!), a pretty gold jewelry dish from Alighieri (via Matches), now 60% off, a ribbed cardigan from Topshop, now 50% off, and a midi t-shirt dress from J.Crew, now 40% off with code COUNTDOWN.

1. This week, sharing a pretty necklace from Boucheron.

I love sharing jewelry! Especially since Mother’s Day is coming up (although I am the sort of mother who wants to pick her own gift, which honestly for the last few years has been no gift, due to overall chaos). I really like this Boucheron line – very subtle, lots of pretty colors and less than other brands. The little pop of red is such a nice detail.

2. For those of you who are following this saga – a powerful and very well done piece via Vulture: Scott Rudin, As Told By His Assistants. The last section is painful and perfect.

3. I enjoyed this piece, via Vanessa Friedman for the NYT, recapping the Oscar’s fashion this year. She makes some very valid points about how the style choices did and did not reflect what we’ve “learned” this past year.

4. A very interesting feature for anyone who is interested in the entertainment industry (or business in general), via the New Yorker: Ari Emanuel Takes On The World.

5. Finally, a piece I’m adding late as I read it this morning, via the NYTimes: Death Is The Only Truth. If you haven’t been following what’s happening in India and Covid please read this.

6. This week I read You, by Caroline Kepnes.

Like most of you, I’d first heard of You through the super successful Lifetime/Netflix series. Which I really didn’t have interest in at the time because I don’t know…maybe because I always found Dan “bleh” on Gossip Girl? Who knows. Anyway, I finally picked up this novel and wow! It was really good…and really well written…and made me laugh at times (always a plus in my book). I loved it. If you’re looking for a very creepy, well written thriller, I highly recommend You.

That article on the oscars fashion is interesting. The writer doesn’t seem to know that Christina Oh was wearing a male hanbok (Korean traditional costume). This of course represented Minari as a Korean American film, but also was a response to China’s recent claim that hanbok is Chinese and not Korean. Many Kpop stars have been wearing hanbok in public to stand against that claim.

Not as a defense (because I think she should have known this as a fashion journalist) but I didn’t know this either! Thank you for educating me on this!
