Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Nordstrom is 25% off almost the entire site. Praying that Nordstrom makes it through this because if they don’t surely NM and Saks are doomed too . ALL of Longchamp is on sale, I’m also getting these fun Ray Ban aviators, and the Dyson Supersonic (which has been coming in and out of stock). Also, all denim from Everlane is $50 for the week – my favorite is the Cheeky Straight, and I’m technically a 24 ankle but take 25 just to have that breathing room, FYI.

1. This week, sharing another GREAT deal courtesy of the Nordstrom discount mentioned above, this Diptyque set of scents and mini candles.

Diptyque, $54

This is a really good deal! Like, really good deal. And, all three scents are pretty inoffensive, light and pretty and fruity and floral, which also makes them an excellent gift (though I have no hostesses to give them too….since I have been shelter-in-place since Monday). But the longer I spend at home, the more I appreciate the little touches like candles and scents…a way to just make each day a little nicer.

2. An interesting piece via The NY Times – fashion’s COVID-19 “Patient Zero” speaks.

3. Another great and thoughtful piece, via The NYT, about the implosion of Outdoor Voices. Though I wonder how many other brands will be suffering in the months to come…post to come on this later.

4. For those of you who need a welcome distraction – this juicy article, via QZ, about how the most in demand jobs for rural Chinese women is to become a mistress (though how is this done in the age of COVID-19 I wonder)?? Thank you Alice for the tip!!

5. This week I read L’art de la Simplicité, by Dominique Loreau.

This book has been on my list for awhile, even though I kind of went through a period of “simplicity fatigue”. Since I’m at home cleaning all the time though, I thought this might be the time to read. This is a quick read, divided into topics (work, money, clothes) with little bits of philosophy strewn in – there were parts I disagreed with (he claims Chinese people never eat “reheated leftovers” !!) but it was thought provoking. If you’re looking to simplify, or just for another soothing minimalist read, I recommend L’art de la Simplicité.

Stay healthy and safe, everyone!

I’ve been burning candles and diffusing oils to calm myself (the prospect of trying to homeschool high school kids is daunting!) Thanks for the heads up on Diptyque. Stay safe!

I am planning to get the Dyson new flat iron…but will wait for a discount. Unfortunately, Nordstrom is not discounting Dyson.

They did. They started readjusting prices yesterday I noticed. The first day felt like a glitch! High priced items were all 25% off.
