Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Excellent black booties from Aquatalia, now 60% off, a linen shirt dress from Everlane, now $55 (I am waiting for the black, waiting waiting), classic black slingbacks from Jimmy Choo, now 40% off, and can someone please buy this gray croc Plume from The Real Real?

1. This week, sharing this great cardigan/coat, from Lauren Manoogian, currently 30% off.

I love this coat! And Lauren Manoogian in general. I love her alpaca. Her pieces are super luxe and special and I think this is a great price for this coat, which is also available on sale in other colors, here. If you are taller, it will look GREAT on you. The only issue for me is that it’s one size and I’m afraid it’ll look like a long bathrobe. Ugh.

2. Sharing this piece, via The NY Times, about the financial stress of having a family. I consider myself on being fairly financially educated (true or not) and I thought I knew most the costs of having kids before I ever got pregnant. But not true! There’s a world of payment out there I had never really considered (kids classes, camps…the list goes on).

3. I have been waiting for this piece, via the always excellent Vanessa Friedman, on when Brand Trump met Brand Vuitton. Arnault’s affiliation with Trump has been quietly discussed for years and it’ll be interesting to see what the reaction is, if any. Trump also retweeted Friedman’s own posts about his announcement with Arnault. PLEASE let me know your thoughts. I really want to hear.

4. A fascinating piece, written by Susan Orlean (!!) on The Real Real, via The New Yorker.

5. This week I read Say Nothing, by Patrick Raddan Keefe.

I have to admit my original inspiration for reading this came after watching the excellent Derry Girls (which I highly recommend – on Netflix). While watching, I realized I knew barely anything about the Troubles period of Northern Ireland, and resolved to learn more – and found this fantastic, beautifully written book, which follows an unsolved murder during the period of the IRA and the Troubles. If you like true crime, if you like non-fiction, I highly recommend Say Nothing.

Kat, the link to the Manoogian coat in other colors on sale takes you to Vanguard’s login page lol :). Can we have the real one please? Thank you as always for posting! I am very interested in your book recommendation this week and also the coat. Also, do you ever read books you don’t recommend? I think I have only seen Friday book reads that you think are good and you do recommend so I am wondering whether you ever read a book that you don’t end up liking, and I would love to hear about those as well!

Ahh! I’m so sorry this is the second time I’ve done this. I updated it!! There are six colors today. Also, I do read LOTS of books (or at least start them) that I do not recommend, not all of them are awful, some are just so so, but I do try to post my favorites, the ones I genuinely like, versus the “hot” ones of the moment etc. As for ones I don’t like- I *try* to stay positive on the blog however if you are ever curious if I’ve tried a book or didnt like one and want to discuss, you can just put in comments and I will respond honestly!

I read the article by Susan Orlean about RealReal, which I have used to both buy and sell in their early years. I had no issues selling, but a few times I bought things that were completely off in dimensions or quality. For some reason I just don’t go there anymore. The shipping is pricey too.
I love that items are being resold and the fashion cycle is finally slowing. I’ve never been a fan of fast fashion shops, so it’s interesting to see that they are struggling or going out of business. LV has never interested me either and I feel the TX move may damage their perceived luxury branding. Today there was an article in NYT on the Trump logo being removed from venues in NYC because of loss of revenue. Not sure how LV affiliating themselves with Trump will be beneficial.
I also read Say Nothing (and watched Derry Girls) the book was eye opening for me. I had no idea how truly violent those times were and the depth of the politics involved. The writing was fabulous and I was totally invested in the outcome. I know from my Catholic friends living there that religion has a very strong hold on their way of life. Wasn’t it just today that Northern Ireland legalized abortion and same sex marriage?
