Weekend Update

1. This week, am sharing this J.Crew dress, which I have been stalking and is finally on sale/working with discount code.

Given what I wrote about in my earlier post about natural fabrics, this is the sort of dress I’m always happy to find – cotton voile and very pretty and a great price! And originally available in petites, too, though it seems to have all sold out (but I’d keep checking back). So pretty and perfect for summer.

2. Sharing this interesting piece, via The Cut, about how Abigail Disney thinks about money. I thought this was especially fascinating given Disney’s insights on money – that bit about having two identities, loving nice things and wanting to save money on toilet paper.

3. Read this New Yorker piece on Karla Welch, Justin Bieber’s stylist. I’m an old lady in that I can’t possibly see how Justin Bieber’s style powers anything but the piece is great and explains it all to me.

4. I entered into a random Google search hole and at one point came across this Complex interview with Jerry Lorenzo and John Mayer. Thought it was interesting enough to share!

5. This week I finished How To Murder Your Life, by Cat Marnell.

I came across Cat Marnell (who I had never heard of before) after reading her feature on The Cut – I was interested enough to look up her book, and after reading the first few pages, quite honestly found myself addicted. It’s an addiction memoir, and also kind of a coming of age, about Marnell manages her dysfunctional family and then eventually lands as the beauty editor at Lucky Mag, before messing it all up – she’s a highly entertaining writer and it’s the sort of prose that just sucks you in. She’s a really good writer, naturally talented, which makes sense when you start to wonder about how she’s still able to function, given all the bad stuff she’s doing. That being said, some might find the endless descent into drugs/bad decisions a little tiring – Marnell is honest about her foibles, even when she knows she doesn’t come off sympathetically. For those interested in memoirs and not too irritated by a high amount of “millennial speak”, because Marnell is definitely a certain sort of millennial – I highly recommend How To Murder Your Life.
