Weekend Update

1. Lately I’ve been very into smocked dresses – I wanted to share this well priced gingham one.

It has everything I like – the ability to be on the shoulder! Smocking! Slits! The perfect midi length! I love dresses but as a result am super picky so when I find one I like I will share.

2. Really enjoyed this piece, via Topic, on various financial windfalls and how people spent them.

3. I’ve been meaning to share this NY Times obituary of Lee Radziwill for some time. What do you think of it’s tone? A little snarky, no? And wow Lee was so stylish.

4. A very interesting piece, via The Cut: Who Killed Tulum?

5. This week I read The Shell Seekers, by Rosamunde Pilcher.

I love this book. It’s a classic, and apparently was a huge seller when it came out in 1987 – I came across it by accident and immediately from the first few pages knew I’d love it. A family saga set in the UK, centered around a painting called “The Shell Seekers” – you’ll just have to read more to find out the rest. If you liked books like The Thorn Birds, I highly recommend The Shell Seekers.

Snarky is a tame word to describe Lee’s obituary – wow, no need to be so critical. The writer didn’t miss an opportunity to trash her. In such very poor taste.

Geez, from the very first sentence that obituary is cutting and dismissive. What’s up with that guy?

I found the article on financial windfalls to be quite interesting. The diversity of the situations presented, and how the individuals handled the various amounts, was eye-opening to me. It made me realize how financially conservative I am, and left me wondering how I ended up with my mind set.
