Weekend Update

1. This week I’m sharing the perfect slide sandals, from Mercedes Castilo.

I had shared the higher version of these sandals in an earlier weekend update, and recently came across these almost-flat-but-not-quite versions. I’m normally pretty much neutrals only but the sunny yellow of these really spoke to me. They are so gorgeous and perfect for spring no? And I love the entire look with the denim dress and straw bag, which can be easily replicated up and down a variety of budgets.

Nordstrom also has the shoe, and also in a gorgeous cornflower blue and periwinkle option.

2. Sometimes I randomly come across these articles from years back and wonder how I missed them the first time around – Sandy and Joan Weill and the 20 Million Gift That Went Awry, via The NY Times.  

3. A piece I’ve been meaning to share a while – The Cheapskate’s Guide to the Good Life, via the WSJ. I know most of the Journal’s articles are behind a paywall but they have so many good ones! Really really good. And I already bought the baklava.

4. Your long read of the week, via The BBC – When Cops Become Robbers. If any of you read my earlier reading recommendation, The Force – this is basically that book in real life.

5. This week I finished Circe, by Madeline Miller.

Madeline Miller is known for her adaptions of Greek mythology, and Circe, her second work, obviously follows the life of the goddess/witch/mystical creature. I have to say, I’m not one of those who is obsessed with Greek mythology but of course I learned it in school – I barely recalled the character Circe, except that I thought Odysseus met her and then something might have happened but I wasn’t sure. Miller’s book, however, is so so good! She writes like a dream and you really enter the life of this perhaps overlooked goddess. Especially the first half of the book – I tore through it – but the entire read is fantastic.  Highly recommend Circe.
