Isabel Marant’s Rules for Dressing

I subscribe still to a bunch of physical magazines – one of which is the very good Porter. There’s always a few articles in it which I’d love to share, but there’s no way to easily do so. This edition (which I’d still encourage you to try out in its entirety) had a great interview from Isabel Marant, about her rules for dressing for yourself. I liked it so much that I’ve scanned it for you to read. I did some cut and paste to make it all easily fit, which is why this post looks a little bit like the fake ransom notes I used to write in elementary school. My poor Photoshop skills are why you’ll never see me with the 6 foot long legs I so desire!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this article!

    Hi Katherine,

First, I must say that I love your blog! I don’t see you leaving my feed anytime soon. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, your suggested reading is one of the reason why I love to actually read your blog rather than just follow you on Instagram (even though your pictures on the gram are fab!). Like the article above or your interview series, it makes me take fashion in in a different way and I really appreciate it. That’s something that is and continues to be so refreshingly different that stands you out from the rest. Great job!

Thanks for sharing this! Isabel Marant is great! I had my first exposure to her line around 2000 when I bought a black sweater coat from Barneys at a third mark down. It is a perfect accessory. Her rules for dress reflect her style & the success she attained. I wish Isabel much future success.
Thanks again Katherine for this post!

Thank you for sharing this article! Truth be told, I haven’t been interested in her collections in the last few years but I respect her style and her sense of self. I’m glad that she’s a designer that really understands the Everyday Woman’s needs in fashion and addresses it in her designs that make fashion fun and personal for women.

I love Isabel Marant and wear my purchases from her line constantly I notice. She really understand the everyday outfit needs of women. Her lines including the Isabel Marant Etoile are creeping up in price every year even though they are a lot more accessible than before.

Thanks for sharing. Very practical words from a designer. I always tells myself that you should always dress for yourself and not bother about what others think. Its easier said than done. Love your blog and follow it religiously. Never commented before, one time when you wrote about your dad, I almost did. I love the sensible way you write, your recommendations are valuable and I have brought myself some goodies based on them. Thank you, I eagerly wait for your twice weekly posts.
