Weekend Update

1. It is so hot out lately that I can’t even start to look at the fall items that are coming in yet. Due to the heat and my own general laziness, I’ve started to wear shorts on occasion to work (why else the existence of casual Friday?). Shorts are already incredibly comfortable but I decided to take it one step further and search for shorts with elastic waists. Yes. They make really cute ones now!

These embroidered numbers from J.Crew ($55)  are my current favorite pair, though unfortunately I ordered the wrong size (hint: they run large!) and now the J.Crew is sold out of the size I want. Egads! Crossing fingers that they reappear, and in time to wear them for weeks and weeks of hot weather to come.

2. Now onto some articles. First up I have a quick little tidbit from The Business of Fashion, discussing whether major disparities in pricing between geographies for luxury goods (ahem, China) can continue as consumers become more globalized. I found it very interesting that Louis Vuitton is now experiencing essentially 0% growth in China. What do you all think?

3. Next up, a longer read from Vanity Fair about the battle currently raging for Claridge’s in London, and what the property represents for the Irish investors currently trying to hold onto it. Very interesting, especially for any hotel lover!

4. This week, I’ve been reading The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, by Robert Heinlein.

I like this book a lot, but I would say that it would probably be best for a sci-fi lover or someone who really enjoys stories set in dystopian societies (liking The Hunger Games triology is probably not enough of a litmus test). I’m a fan of one of Heinlein’s most famous works, Starship Troopers, though I think he is actually the most creative in this book. I would try it if the storyline of a future revolution in 2076 between the repressed residents of the moon – “Loonies” – and those who live on Earth.

Have a great weekend!

Loved your article about LV. I went to get a passport holder, and was really disappointed at the luck off choice. This is in their flagship bond street store.

Thanks for the book recommendation! I loved Stranger in a Strange Land and Time Enough for Love. Have added The Moon is a Harsh Mistress to my wishlist.

Have you read Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain? I read it recently, thought you might enjoy it as well!
