There is a certain guy in our friend circle – let’s call him “John”. Well to us friends, his nickname is “Bottle Service John” because he’s always the first person to whip out the Centurion when out in public. Pretty girls nearby? “Let me get this round of drinks!” he’ll bellow, waving his fancy thick credit card in the air. He’s that kind of guy – I’m sure you all probably have a version in your group.
Anyway, as you can tell, John likes the finer things in life, and always likes to speculate on what it’d be like if he were a warlord – the cars, watches, and a lifestyle which I can only guess would be prosecuted under “extreme polygamy” in the United States. “If only I was a warlord…” he mused aloud while we were shopping a few weeks ago, as he eyed a fancy Breuget watch. “If only.”
If only, indeed! So now the term has caught on, and I say it whenever I see something gorgeous and way, way out of my wallet league. I said it this weekend when I went to go look at some Verdura cuffs in person – oh my, I would so have one (or two) of these on my wrists tomorrow = If Only I Were A Warlord!
You may recognize these cuffs from Coco Chanel – they were her bracelet of choice. She often wore two, one on each wrist, as you can see in the photos. Verdura designed jewelry for Chanel at Coco’s invitation, and it was during this stint that he designed his famous “Maltese Cross” bracelet which is what you see above. So gorgeous, right? Too bad these start at around $30k and above. But if you have a fabulous budget I would recommend a trip to Verdura’s lovely flagship salon in New York where you can get a cuff customized to your wrist. I’ll leave you all with a particular favorite of mine, set in green jade…I’ll say it again, if only I was a warlord…this baby would all, all mine.

June 7, 2011 at 4:04 pmI adore these Verdura cuffs….but why, like all Verdura jewelry, do they need to be so overpriced?
If I were a warlord, I would demand a discount!

June 8, 2011 at 12:26 amHow those cuffs are stunning, I think it's good they off customization to your wrist size. Cuffs never seem to fit me because I have the smallest hands and thinest wrists. lol
Thanks for your comment on my blog! 🙂

June 8, 2011 at 3:20 amSo funny!! I love this story – don't we all know that guy?
I've seen knock-offs of these cuffs – now I can't remember when or who did them. I'm pretty sure I saw them at Neiman Marcus, and I want to say they were in the $300 range? Now I'm on a hunt to find them again for you!
