Beauty/Skincare Favorites

Sale PSA: A cashmere poncho from Autumn Cashmere, now under $160 (use it as an easy layer on spring/summer evenings), my favorite simple black summer sandals from Lucky, now under $70 (see them on me here), a fabulous dusty rose cashmere/silk blend sweater from Roksanda, now 70% off, and a two piece crop top and skirt from Alice and Olivia, now 40% off for both.

Today I’m sharing with you some of my current beauty and skincare favorites. I don’t do beauty posts very often – I’ve typically been much more of a utility shopper for makeup, and tend to buy the same favorites over and over again. In the past year though, I’ve found a few new great products (and been on a bit of a lipstick binge), so thought I’d share some of my favorites!

Makeup Favorites

Hourglass Illusion Tint: I’m not a foundation person – I probably need it, but I’m not good enough at makeup and plus I don’t have much time in the mornings. So most days I’ll end up with either nothing at all, or just a little bit of this tinted moisturizer on my face. I have dry skin now (a recent development), and this Hourglass tint glides on very smoothly, and isn’t drying at all. I just use my fingers (it’d probably be even better with a Blender sponge).

Make Up Forever HD Blush: I bought one of these a few years ago, and these are still my favorite blushes – I just keep adding new colors. This one is #410 – a universally flattering coral shade. Another item that I just apply with my fingers – I don’t have a brush for this at all.

MAC Eyebrow Definer: I’ve recommended this eyebrow pencil multiple times on the blog, and it’s still my favorite. I always have at least 2-3 backups ready to go. My go to color is Lingering, and its a universally flattering shade to anyone with brown/black hair. Continue Reading

My Favorite Oils

Have you ever gone shopping for skincare/body products on Amazon? I can assure you that what might seem like a quick research and purchase can quickly spiral out of control, as you click from one recommended product to the next (1000+ 5 star reviews? No more wrinkles, ever? Click, click, and click).

Oils

That’s what happened to me a few months ago, when I went to complete what I thought would be a quick re-order of coconut oil. I ended up reading a few reviews touting all the fantastic benefits and unique uses, and then found a reviewer stating how coconut oil was her favorite oil….that was, after almond oil.

After about an hour of browsing (which is an eternity when you have a baby and your other options include sleeping), I somehow ended up with about ten oils in my shopping cart. Ten! But even ten oils is way less than a single bottle of SK-II.

Rosehip Seed Oil: This has become my nightly use oil, and I layer it over whatever regular moisturizer/cream I happen to be using for the night. I haven’t noticed any miraculous benefits, but it moisturzes my face nicely, without breaking it out or clogging any pores, and its all organic. The oil itself is a bright orange color which worried me a bit – was I going to turn into an Oompa Loompa? But I only use a few drops anyway, and I haven’t seen any discoloration. Also, note that there is no lovely rosy scent to this – it just smells a bit earthy. Continue Reading

Skincare Favorites of 2014

Earlier this month, I shared my beauty favorites of 2014 with you all, and so enjoyed all of your product recommendations. I’ve already ordered some since, and have discovered some great items that I think will be showing up on my list for 2015!

Today, I’m following up with some of my skincare favorites of 2014. Enjoy and please share yours! I am a skincare junkie – more than beauty by far!

Skincare Favorites

Clinique Superdefense SPF: Still one of my favorite morning SPF + moisturizers in one, although over the years as I’ve aged (sob) I’ve had to transition from the oily skin version to the dry. Such is life. The only downside is that it’s a little expensive, which is why I’ve also used…

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Cream: Quite effective, I like that it has a light dose of retinol, and the tube it comes in is much more sanitary I have to say than Clinique’s jar format. Continue Reading

Beauty Favorites of 2014

Recently I’ve had some requests to share my beauty and skincare favorites – over the next few months I hope to share with you all of my favorite finds both this year, and ever!  Today I thought I’d start with beauty (especially since I’ll personally be stocking up on some favorite sets during the holidays)…here’s what I’ve been using, and loving, in 2014.

Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment: I love these, I have for years, I just can’t give them up. I even tried buying some of the more inexpensive versions that have come out over the years – from Burt’s Bees, to Maybelline Baby Lips. They’ve all been fine, but Fresh’s version is king. My favorite colors are Passionfruit and Plum, and I’ve basically tried them all.

By the way – each year, Sephora comes out with a few great Fresh Sugar sets that lets you try out multiple colors.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy: My favorite blush. I’m a bit of a blush addict, and even though I usually prefer gel/cream textures, this one is still the best. Fantastic staying power (and I have oily skin), and an array of flattering colors. I like coral blushes, and I’ll use this one year round.

MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark: Like I mentioned earlier, I have oily skin. I brush this on over my t-zone each morning and again if I’m going out somewhere at night. Keeps the shine at bay and doesn’t clog my pores. I have pretty light skin but I still use the medium dark color – it’s pretty translucent and never shows up as too dark on me. Continue Reading
