Weekend Update

Sale PSA: a Proenza Schouler cobalt calf hair clutch with silver lining, now 40% off, Givenchy croc effect pumps with silver trim, now 40% off, a Carven leopard print coat, now 40% off, and a royal blue Tadashi lace cocktail dress, now under $150.

J.Crew also has 40% off a great set of outerwear with code “GIVETHIS”. My picks are a pretty “Majesty” peacoat, a down filled puffer vest (I wear my J.Crew version tons in fall/winter, a great layering piece), and a wool plaid scarf you can layer over anything.

1. I’ve been on a small beauty product binge lately. One of my favorite purchases? This awesome HD Blush from Make Up For Ever.

I love a good beauty item and buy into the hype around certain products as much as anybody else – but honestly, while I love a new goodie, I usually can admit that perhaps there was nothing particularly “special” about the latest it item. As a blush lover however, I have to say that this is the best new blush that I have tried. It goes on incredibly nicely using just my fingertips (perfect for travel), and has quite good staying power. I rarely buy the same blush twice, but I’ve already ordered another one of these in a different color to have on hand. Recommended!

2. I loved this article via the WSJ,  “How To Dress Like A Fashion Insider“. Who wouldn’t want to dress like Ms. Alt? And she makes me feel good about wanting to buy only kitten heels lately and passing up on a bunch of really tempting but probably too crazy/cool items in Paris this past weekend.

3. On the topic of purchases…check out this NY Mag article on the dumbest thing that 21 women have bought. I have to think about what my dumbest items are. Not because I am such a great purchaser…but really because there are so many to choose from. Sigh.

4. I was recently talking about the movie Cloud Atlas with a friend, and I shared that in my opinion, the trailer is actually way better than the movie.

Of course, that then started me on a jag of watching the trailer over and over…seriously I’m such a sap, I think it makes me teary sometimes.

Then of course, I decided to read the book again and was reminded of how much I enjoy it. It helped that I’ve had ample time on planes in the last week…but even if I hadn’t, Cloud Atlas is really worth a read. For those new to the book, try your best to make it through the first section which I found the most difficult the first time. It’ll get easier after that, I promise.

I also found the movie… not as good. I have not read the book, but apparently a worthier use to time than the movie?
