White Sandals

During my college freshman year summer, I checked out a bunch of fashion books from the library, most containing lots advice about what to wear and what not to wear. I’ve always remembered reading one particularly crochety writer’s insistence that there was one type of shoe that should never, ever be worn (save for your wedding day) – the white shoe.

That advice stuck with me for years, and because I prefer to be a mindless sheep about these things, I prodigiously avoided white shoes or sandals of any kind. That is until I picked up this little pair on a sale whim – come on, don’t they look so comfortable?

And of course they are…so, so comfortable and easy to wear! I’ve worn these white sandals more than I thought I would. So far, I’ve found that they go great with white dresses in the summer, long maxi prints, and shorts with a light linen shirt. I like them so much that now I’m considering them in another color.  A nude or light pink pair would be perfect to wear to the multiple outdoor weddings we’re going to where stiletto heels are not advised.

My good friend Jess told me the other day that white sandals and pumps are all good and great, but you have to make sure they’re quality materials, as anything else easily can place them in the “cheesy” realm. What are your rules for white shoes and sandals, and do you have a pair in your closet?

those look very cute and comfortable. I have white driving shoes. I’ve read that advice about white shoes too, like everything we have to take it with a grain of salt. I agree with your friend though that they should be good materials especially when it comes to heels.

    So cute!
I own a pair of Sam Edelman ‘Trina’ low-heels in nude and white and love the elegance they bring to the simplest outfits. I probably won’t get another pair of white shoes but am glad I have this pair.

Oh I love those Trina sandals – for some reason they just don’t fit my foot right, so disappointing as I see them everywhere and they seem like the perfect comfortable sandal!

They are pretty shoes, but no, I don’t own white shoes (other than tennis shoes) because I don’t care for them. I know they are in style right now, but that doesn’t matter to me.

But really – you ask “Don’t these look comfortable?”. No…they look like I’d break my ankle in them! Granted…I’m old, and my days of wearing this type of shoe is over, not that they wouldn’t look good on my feet, but I can’t walk in them. My 25 year old stepdaughter wears very, very high wedges like those. She’s 5′ 1″ and wants to appear taller – but she and her friends clomp aound in shoes like that – those shoes don’t allow for a very graceful look when walking! Then again, maybe she’s just not adept in walking in such high heels!

Bisbee your comment made me laugh, definitely a dose of reality as these are only comfortable in a warped world where high stilettos are the baseline. You are correct that they aren’t as graceful however they do give a good bit of stability especially when walking down a dirt path in Napa ! 🙂

Ohhh, I know the thing about white shoes but I only knew that white boots are rather nor wearable or something like that. I also don’t like white boots, they often look quite,..slutty? But we should always wear what we want!
But I can’t see anything wrong with white sandals or flats! They look super pretty (: <33

I love white shoes and I hate so many of those books of rules concerning fashion. This is a gorgeous pair of shoes, and I can see that they would go with so many things in a summer wardrobe!
