Interview with Diamonds: Part Two

I hope you enjoyed Part One of meeting the lovely Diamonds yesterday – I read it a few times just to get another dose of all the lovely eye candy. She really has such beautiful style and now I’ve added Hermes shawls and scarves to my ever expanding list which I’m sure makes frequent appearances in my husband’s nightmares. I hope you all enjoy the second portion of the interview, where Diamonds is as kind, charming and stylish as ever.

beautiful Diamonds and some of her lovely Hermes items (love that croc Lindy!)

I know you travel a lot. What’s your typical traveling out and what are your travel bags/luggage ( I know you have some killer H pieces!) Travel tips to share?

We always try to travel with hand luggage which is actually impossible with a small baby..so at the moment I’m terrible in giving any good advice, as I’m lost with the packing myself! When I was traveling for business I always tried to wear either black or brown for the entire journey and packed clothes accordingly. This way all my items matched each other and there was no need to carry many different styles.

Limit the amount of shoes into the pair you travel with (the heavier pair) and another one to change into for evening occasions. When traveling I always carry only inexpensive jewelry, just in case a bag gets lost. A colorful, beaded necklace can change many outfits as can a good shawl or scarf. In my experience the toiletries are the most difficult one to pack lightly. I travel with sample sizes and a good moisturizer, good mascara is a must as well. Nowadays I only use eco-certified natural beauty products which can be hard to find from airports.

On the left: Rick Owens jacket, Maison Scotch tee, J Brand jeans, Isabel Marant sneakers, “Les Couvertures et Tenues de Jour” shawl and 35cm bicolor Togo Birkin Etoupe/Gris Tourterelle

The luggage itself needs to be lightweight and easy to carry. For suitcases I prefer Tumi bags. If I check in a bag I carry often a bigger handbag with me like for example a 45cm HAC Birkin which fits another smaller handbag inside (30cm Birkin or a small Kelly). This way you have a shopper and a smaller bag with you and you don’t need to worry about putting an expensive bag into your check in luggage. If I travel with a small suitcase on board I carry a 35cm Birkin or Kelly as a handbag and have another small bag tucked inside; a Kelly Pochette, Jige or small Chanel 2.55.

On the left: Black Massai bag, Hugo Boss leather jacket, J Brand jeans, Hermès sneakers

What are some lessons you’ve learned about shopping/style/budgeting that you’ve learned over the years that you’d like to share?

Trends come and go- it’s better to find a style you feel comfortable in no matter what. I’m quite busy myself and have no time to plan special outfits for the next day. I know that people have different lifestyles and possibilities but rarely do women actually use more than a fraction of their clothes. It’s a shame but also a relief as we have all made more or less the same mistakes! If you love a trend or have a special occasion I suggest that you look first for an inexpensive alternative. Many high street brands have well cut dresses and jackets in the latest styles and colors.

Also always, always pay off your credit card invoices as soon as they come in- this way you know what you’re really spending. I used to let the credit card invoices hang just to realize another month or two later that I had completely overspent. I’ve also tried a shopping ban a few times- it works and the items you already have get more use when you’re not shopping for more. I also donate regularly clothes from my wardrobe to keep it organized and to justify new buys when necessary.

How about overall life advice?

Well I’m not a scientist nor a philanthropist so I don’t know if I can give any! However I would recommend everyone to enjoy life and remember to be thankful for what you have. Family and friends are the most important things in life.

On the right: 35cm Blue Sapphire Ardennes Birkin GHW, “Srinagar” cashmere / silk GM shawl, Tods flats, J Brand jeans

What are some of your other passions and hobbies?

I love sports and follow many different disciplines. I ride horses myself and find it a lovely way to enjoy animals. I try to watch lot of movies and read books but lately it has been difficult to find time for everything. I also used to make some jewelry myself, I find working with my own hands really rewarding.

What’re some items you’d like to buy in the future? Dream items?

I hate to think that I would be really dreaming about some stupid fashion item or piece of clothing while at the same time millions of people are starving, and  only thinking about getting something to eat or fighting a difficult sickness. I know that these things can’t be compared but I try to remind myself about it.

To be honest I look forwards to the new Hermès shawls every season and will follow closely how the brand evolves and what kind of new items they decide to create. Scarves and shawls are my weakness.

28cm white Swift Kelly PHW, “Les Clès” cashmere / silk GM shawl, Hermès top, Filippa K capris, Hermès Oran sandals

And finally – please share something surprising about yourself!

I have the weirdest taste of music as I love classical music, Strauss for example and from opera singers Pavarotti and Andreas Bocelli are my favorites, but I listen also a lot of completely different kind of music and Eminem is my real number one idol!

I have to say thank you many times to Diamonds for this interview, and for sharing a few snapshots from her lovely life with us. I really adore her style because I feel that it is so wearable – comfort is really important to me – and it’s such fantastic inspiration that Diamonds can look so stylish and comfortable whether it’s daytime or evening. Again, I hope you enjoyed meeting the ever beautiful and gracious Diamonds, and thank you for reading!

I always pay off my credit card right away too! That guarantees that I take the plastic swipe seriously…and that there's no danger of me losing track of purchases I've made.

You are right–D's style is very elegant and comfortable all at the same time. An inspiring set of images and responses. Thank you, DiamondS for sharing all of this with us. I've always been able to resist H shawls (scarves and horn are another matter entirely), but this collection of photographs ignites some longing.

Despite the fact that she leads an amazing lifestyle, D is incredibly down to earth, pragmatic and grateful for what she has. What a wonderful attitude (and utterly beautiful collection).

I love your blog but I was not very impressed with this particular interviewee. Nothing personal, but her style and taste struck me as rather matronly and dated, even with the brands she is wearing that are popular now, i.e. wang and jbrand, and some of the brighter colors. Maybe it was the pictures? I understand the love of scarves (as I have a few too many myself) but wearing them as shawls instead of neck scarves makes her entire look a bit… motherly, as well. The outfits also seemed a bit hastily thrown together. Not that my two cents matter all that much. 🙂 Just trying to provide constructive feedback.

Her Hermes collection is envious! I have not yet to own an Hermes bag. I don't think I ever will. My husband might murder me. He was about to die when I bought my first Chanel purse.

Hi! I understand that nobody's style will ever appeal to everybody…I personally adore D's style which I would interpret as classic with a twist 🙂 Regardless I'm sure D will appreciate your feedback and thank you for the constructive comment!
