Interview with SJL

SJL is one of the most stylish ladies I’ve come across and I would describe her fashion is youthful, fun, and classic. It was such a pleasure doing this interview, and all of SJL’s photos are like a breath of fresh air and color – you will soon see that her taste is exquisite! Enjoy meeting SJL:

First things first – what is your name? What do you do, and where are you from? 

My initials are SJL, and I am from Singapore.

How would you describe your style? 

Mostly girly, with a little bit rock and roll.

I adore your wardrobe. Name some of your favorite items – the holy grails that you stare at and make you happy when you open your closet 🙂 

Thank you! Oh my, the list is very long and it varies with time…..These Alexander McQueen Gladiators Sandals the hubby bought me on our honeymoon 7 years ago, my Judith Leiber Piggy Clutch that can hold nothing else but cash (for the cab ride home…hahahah!), a Van Cleef and Arpels Between the Fingers Lotus Ring, and the latest is this Tom Binns Techno Bib Necklace.

What are the workhorses in your closet – the items that you wear the most? I’d love to hear your answers for bags/accessories/clothes. 

For bags – Black Birkin and Black Chanel Reissue.

Clothes – My boyfriend jeans (Technically mine are “hubby jeans’ because I altered a pair of his old Levi’s to fit myself!)

Accessories – I wear a lot of my Hermes CDCs and my Franck Muller Watch…..And I am always in 5 inch heels. I do not really have a favourite shoe brand, I am more of an equal opportunist.

I really admire the way you are able to mix colors into your looks. Can you share some of your favorite outfit photographs? 

I don’t think I have “the eye” when in comes to colours, so I tend to do so in small doses. I think colours can brighten a person’s day and elevate one’s mood.

What else are your hobbies? Can you share some more details? 

I love to travel, and to try out new restaurants with friends and family. But after having my now 9 month-old daughter, I tend to spend whatever time I have when I am not work just hanging out with her. Being with my family is my greatest joy….and luxury.

What about your home/decor? I am sure you have a lovely home – can you share some of your favorite interior items? 

My hubby and I like this Zanotta Coffee Table that is extra big and wide and hence large enough for the 2 of us to use as a dinner table on evenings when we want to do TV dinners!

What were some of the biggest mistakes that you made earlier on in fashion? In purchasing? Share your biggest fashion faux pas! 

I make fashion mistakes and faux pas ALL the time (I’ve probably done every no-no there is at one point or another), and I STILL do!…I take it as part of experimenting and learning about what suits me. I also feel that fashion is about having fun and a little humour goes a long way….I like wearing silly things now and then, and laughing about it with my family and girlfriends.

Please share some advice for our readers as to what you have learned about fashion/purchasing – what would you advise them, what mistakes would you tell them to avoid? 

I have learnt to always buy what I really love rather than what is the most pragmatic. I also try to buy the best quality that I can afford and take good care of it, so that way the item goes a long long way and I get to enjoy it for many years to come!

Finally, please share something surprising about yourself 🙂 

My favourite shopping mate is actually my hubby – he is my largest supporter, my greatest enabler and my sharpest critic.

Isn’t SJL beautiful and her taste just exquisite? There isn’t a single item that she shows/wears here that I wouldn’t consider a worthwhile investment, and I know that I’ve personally added a Pucci dress and colorful Birkin to my list! Thank you SJL for sharing your life and photographs with us – and have a great Wednesday everybody!
