Favorites of 2013

Happy holidays! I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season. We are at home in the Bay Area for Christmas for the first time in years, and it’s been great to have some time to relax and catch up with everything. For me I have always associated Christmas with not only the traditional American festivities, but also lots of Asian food. So I am so happy that this season I have finally have access to my favorite dumplings, hot tofu soups, shabu shabu, beef noodle soup, and so much more. Hooray!

I shared some of my favorite wardrobe items in 2012, and wanted to do the same this year. Here are some of my favorite additions in 2013 (and I have a resolutions and lessons learned post coming up soon too).

Frye Jackie boots (reviewed here). I have been looking for the perfect pair of ever so slightly heeled knee high black boots for a very long time, and was so happy to find these Fryes. I love this style and most importantly of all – they are comfortable! I’ve worn them not only to work but all around Europe – tromping over cobblestones and also through muddy lawns. I’m not afraid to get them dirty though I will be taking them into the cobbler ever so often to make sure they last a long time.

I found mine at Nordstrom (where the black is readily in stock), the rest of the colors can be found at Zappos.

Sachi coat (reviewed here). This was one of my first purchases of 2013 and I enjoyed wearing it both last and this winter. I love having the option of a bright colored coat to throw on anytime, and the price was a small fraction of what I usually pay for outerwear. Nordstrom has this year’s version on sale in a lovely bright blue and always classic black, for a little over $200.

Knot clutch (reviewed here). Actually my favorite bag this year was by far the Kelly that Mr. Feather ordered for me, but I listed a Kelly last year, so I’m highlighting my second favorite. My little Bottega Veneta knot is my favorite evening bag in my closet and I use it not only for formal occasions, but more casual ones as well where just a phone and some lipstick are needed. A classic shape and style that I would recommend to anyone.

Trouve sweater. I never highlighted this particular sweater on the blog – I purchased it earlier in the year in black and have found it very versatile. It’s a nice oversized fit (size down), and a light, soft fabric that is comfortable in both fall and spring. I wear this sweater to work quite often, but it’s actually my go to favorite for flying now – it’s long enough to cover leggings and easy to move around in on a plane. The price is also nice, under $70.

Balenciaga jacket (reviewed here). By far the coolest leather jacket I own! I love this little leather jacket and wish that I had tried the biker style earlier. I always thought it would be “too cool” for dowdy old me but the shape is surprisingly very versatile and classic. I’d recommend anybody and everybody at least giving the style a try.

The Balenciaga version I have is pricey but actually fairly “reasonably”priced compared to other luxury versions on the market (Saint Laurent for $5K, anyone)? That being said, there are a slew of options across many different price ranges.

My picks are a lovely version from Vince for $1K, and a Topshop version in faux leather with very good reviews for under $90.
