Interview with Larkie: Part One

I am so excited to share this week’s interview with you because Larkie is someone whose style I’ve admired for a really long time – with a killer Chanel collection to boot. She was kind enough to answer the zillion questions I asked her and to share some photographs with us. There is so much amazing material that I split up this interview into two parts, for today and tomorrow. Enjoy part one of the interview with the ever so stylish, Larkie.

First of all, who are you, and what do you do? Where do you live?

My name is Larkie and I’m a lawyer/entrepreneur/blogger/nomad.

Please give us a peek into your fabulous closet – what are the brands you are most passionate about? What items do you tend to collect (shoes, bags, etc)?

I adore labels like Alexander McQueen, Dior, and Gucci, but I am doing my own “science experiment” on collecting strictly Chanel. Let’s see how long I can last doing this! But for staple items like shirts and pants, my favorite brand is J.Crew.

I’m a cardigan lover, so have to ask you to share some more details behind your amazing cardigan collection.

So you’ve noticed my cardigan addiction! I think Chanel cardigans make great investments because of the quality and timelessness of each piece. And even the funkier ones are great season after season. Some of them can be dressed up to replace a more traditional blazer for work and others can be an easy layering piece for the weekends or nights out when you want a more casual look without looking too frumpy.

What would be a typical go to outfit for you on a casual day? What about going out at night?

On casual days I like to wear slim fitting capris or jeans with a 3/4 sleeve tshirt or tank top under a Chanel cardigan or tweed jacket. I’d wear my Converse leather sneakers or flats with this look. For nights out, it’s usually all black, whether that’s a LBD or pants with a slinky top, and a pair of killer heels. Wearing all black gives me a canvas for wearing statement jewelry that I might not otherwise wear during the day.

I know you are a travel junkie : what are some of your travel tips in terms of what to pack, travel essentials, etc?

What I’ve learned from the road is that your travel wardrobe has to be flexible enough to accommodate all kinds of unpredictable climates. So I pack a lot of lightweight and water resistant items that can be layered. Natural fibers are great, but I look for pieces that can un-wrinkle themselves as soon as I hang them up in my hotel room’s closet. I try to pack light because there’s always shopping on the road–that’s half of the fun of traveling–but my must have items are hat, sunglasses, sunblock, LBD, a favorite black cardigan, a pair of comfortable shoes, and a swimsuit. Everything else can be replaced.

What are some of the favorite places you’ve traveled to? Where for a relaxing experience and where for a cultural one? Where has the food been the most memorable?

Even in third world countries with very few modern resources I can honestly say every place I’ve ever traveled to has been my favorite place. Sure, it’s great to stay at a 5-star resort in Malaysia, but I am equally psyched by sleeping in a tent in the middle of the Sahara during a freak rainstorm. Both of these experiences were memorable for me. But if I had a choice, I’d rather have an adventurous travel experience than a relaxing one. I love the spa as much as the next gal but I can’t sit still for more than an hour. Besides Vietnam, the food has been the most memorable in Sydney. I was there for 5 weeks and did not have a single bad meal. That’s pretty rare!

I hope you enjoyed part one of Larkie’s interview! Tomorrow, Larkie will be sharing her exotics collection and views on fashion. A small preview of what’s coming up below, and check out Larkie’s blog here:

Love the cardigans and the handbags! That Alexander McQueen cape is pretty fabulous, as well! If I could score just a single Chanel handbag, I'd be pretty thrilled!

She is so well dressed, so classic and chic! Thanks for the interview. I don't think there is any girl in the world who isn't fascinated by chanel and who wouldn't dream to own at least 1 item.

Fabulous collection! I'm really enjoying these interview posts. I have to admit, I'm quite nosy about other people's closets and their comments on fashion. It's nice not having to ask them myself! Hehe.
