Favorites of 2014

December isn’t over yet, but I feel confident enough at this point that I can start to list out some of my favorite purchases of the year. Enjoy!

Favorites of 2014

1. Black Hermes Bolide, size 35cm: I added this bag early on in the year, since my mom took possession of my 31cm size (I did a comparison of the two sizes, here). I love it and it is the perfect size for travel and for cramming all of my daily work items. I think this bag has had more random pieces of fruit and water bottles rolling around in it than any others. I also love its Fjord leather – I wish I could get more bags in this hardy leather!

2. Barton Perreira Ronette sunglasses: I am a sunglasses fiend and continually subject my shopping partners to long try outs at the glasses counters. My favorite brand currently is Barton Perreira – I love their styles, they’re quite wearable and the quality is really good too. The style I own from them is called the “Ronette” – a soft cat eye and it comes in the coolest colors – all neutrals, but with something special about each. The only problem is the price, of course…much more than some competitors, more in the Chanel range.

3. Anthropologie “Signe” dress (review here): I am still very happy with these dresses…really easy to wear, floaty, and the most important two words: machine washable.

4. Black Chanel jacket (review here): I had wanted to add the classic black tweed Chanel button down jacket for years, but kept getting distracted by other ready to wear options. I finally added one this year (at 50% off, yahoo!) and I should have bought it earlier. So easy to wear and it’s my new go to “business casual” black jacket.

5. Tadashi floral sequin sheath dress: I discovered Tadashi this year and am a new fan of the brand. Yes, some of the dresses are a little “older” looking, but I  think that’s part of the genius of the brand – it’s made to fit and flatter a wide range of sizes and ages. This floral sequin dress is a little more youthful and I love the shape, it’s my new wedding guest dress. If you do buy it, it runs a tad large.

6. Saint Laurent Tributes: Not pictured, but I added another pair this year in classic black patent in the higher heel. I tried to find another high heeled sandal, especially since I keep reading that the platform is “over”, but really nothing has been nearly as comfortable. And after about 3 hours of standing at any given formal event, that’s all I care about. Glad that Hedi Slimane wasn’t able to kill off this best seller!

What were some of your favorite purchases in 2014?

I love your Chanel jacket so much, it’s so beautiful. But for a more affordable pick I also really adore your Anthropologie dress(es). You have great style. I look forward to see what 2015 brings you!

Since you mentioned travel. What do you use for business travel to carry your laptop, etc?
I currently use a Samsonite Xenon 2 backpack, which is very convenient (especially the TSA friendly laptop compartment) but it’s definitely not feminine or very elegant. Plus, it looks gigantic on me.
Would you mind maybe doing a post explaining “what’s in your business travel bag”? I feel like I carry a lot of things, even after trimming down to the essentials.

Love walking down yearly purchase memory lane! Love the Hermes Bolide size comparison. Can you also do one with your YSL sandals?? You had mentioned that you bought the “higher heel”. Thanks! BTW, did you keep all the items you had purchased (Spring 2014: Sale Update) with the Chanel Tweed jacket or did you keep all of them? Happy Holidays!

You purchased some really beautiful, classic clothing this year! My favorite purchases include a Prada backpack to better balance the weight of everything I carry on a daily basis, several cashmere and wool scarves because I use them year round in SF, and a pair of Cole Haan suede waterproof boots.Oh, and a vintage tweed Chanel suit which I outgrew before I could wear it this fall.

Ah! I still drool over your Bolide. When I went to Paris this past summer, they didn’t have ANY Bolides in the 31cm or 35cm. I was a bit bummed, but picked the Jypsiere instead. Then I scored an Evelyne at a local consignment shop a few months ago. I’m happy for now, but will always dream of adding a Bolide one day!

Really?? That is so strange! But the Jypsiere and Evelyne are both great bags..you will add a Bolide later on 🙂

That bag is so gorgeous! I have had very good luck with bags this year – love my raw brandy bucket from Mansur Gavriel, it’s pretty much the perfect summer bag. Also scored a Clare Vivier simple tote in navy suede on sale. Perfect for days when I need to stuff a hardback into my bag – it can hold more stuff than any other bag I own. Am living in my Black Crane dresses – so easy to wear and such good, hard wearing cotton. Also added a few pairs of Ancient Greek Sandals to my wardrobe – in the Galini style, great for day and (in gold/silver leather) elegant enough for evening. Other purchases fall into the “staple” category – a pair of Varas in black leather and some delicate gold jewelry – tiny studs, a few rings from Scosha and Jennifer Meyer, and bracelets from Marie-Hélène de Taillac and from a local jeweller for everyday wear.

My favorite would have to be everything I’ve gotten at my boutique! Our pieces are hand-designed in NYC and backed by a lifetime replacement guarantee! I’m also happy to offer an exclusive 25% off for a limited time 🙂

My favorite purchase of 2014 would be my men’s Rolex. It is perfection. I never cared for men’s watches until I bought my Cartier Panthere. Now I will never wear a women’s watch again.

Wow, this is a really tough question! I would have to say those Chanel summer espadrilles would make the list – I hope you saw the Cruise collection — it is taking a lot of self control not to indulge in the poppy red-orange suede color! Lol 😉
-Some drugstore lip sheers which are a near dupe for the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines (Boots no7 if you were curious – and you get more lip product) in both texture and color. 😀
-The Ultimate Sherpa Throw from Costco which is mind bogglingly soft and normally I don’t care much for throws or blankets but this one makes me want to buy more – it is intensely soft and warm.
-A Burberry coat which was actually a gift for my mother which she didn’t like. :-/ But I ended up liking!
-And then with the Chanel Pre-Sale for the Private sale starting…who knows? Lol – I might add on a few more items by the end of next week! I hope you get something good from it and share with us! You always end up with the best stuff!
Looks like you had an amazing time in Paris! Such great photos!

    🙂

A new violet and green Missoni woven scarf from the Florence, Italy store.
Helmut lang leather pants (high end)
Baggy Michael Kors pleather pants (for a more low key every day look)
