Today I thought I would share with you all some of my recent larger sale purchases – both the duds and winners!
I’ve been busy the last few months and haven’t had a lot of time to physically go to stores and browse, so all of my items were actually mailed from some of my favorite sales associates. Nothing beats the instant gratification of sale shopping in store…but coming home without having to park or browse and fight through racks to a nice stack of packages definitely comes a close second.
You might notice that a lot of my sale purchases were Chanel, and all were clothing. For some reason I wasn’t really looking for shoes this season (except for throwaway cheapies that I could thrash in the sand), and I’ve been feeling like I have enough bags…for now. I sat out the last few seasons of Chanel but the past spring and cruise collections really caught my attention. Actually so did Paris/Dallas pre-fall because of my love of Westerns, but that’s another story.
All right, here we go – my spring 2014 sale returns and keeps.
Sale Item #1: Black Chanel trench (see below for it on), 50% off. I was really excited to receive this trench and thought it would be a great light topper for spring and fall. I loved the buttons and the Lesage tweed trimming. However, there were several problems with this trench. First, it was quite large on me, even in a size 34 (the smallest Chanel makes). The lapels were huge for my shape and frame.
Second, it made a very distinct rustling sound whenever I moved..it sounded like I was smuggling garbage bags under my coat. Seinfeld fans may remember the episode when George buys the suit that “swooshes” for his interview with McKinsey…I felt exactly the same way. I only had to try it on once to put it back in its box.
Sale Item #2: Burberry trench (seen above), 40% off. This was actually a very pretty trench, and there weren’t really any issues with it. It fit very nicely and would have required only minor alterations. In the end, this went back in the box because the color was almost identical to a Valentino trench I have. Also, while I liked the convenience of the snap buttons, I still thought that the classic Burberry with horn buttons was prettier.
