Summer Essentials – The Hat

Sale PSA: A chic Reformation wrap dress, now 40% off (I also like this ruffle detail minidress, now $131), a pretty printed mini dress from Rhode, now 25% off, and silk pants from DVF, now under $120

I always wear a hat. In the summer especially but year round. I have to admit that sometimes I get lazy about SPF which I REALLY know I shouldn’t but at least I always wear a hat. I recently found a GREAT hat, on sale, so I had to share, and then thought of a few other summer essentials I love.

Okay – so first off, the hat! I’m wearing the Scala Big Brim cotton sun hat. The main reason why I wanted to write this post. I got this hat SO cheap (under $25) and it is great! I have a few baseball caps (my favorite is from Everlane) as well as an Eric Javits sun hat and fedora but even though all could be squished I really wanted something even lighter, more squishable, and that would also protect my neck (unlike a baseball cap). So I had to share! I love my Eric Javits hats but sometimes I want something more portable and this is perfect. I bought two colors (the second is desert, even CHEAPER). The brim is also adjustable so you can roll it up. I’m seriously so enthusiastic about it.

Also I’m having work done on my house and I was cajoling my son to take this photo the workers came and saw the whole thing and I died of shame. So I only have one photo.

Also you might notice I am wearing the:

Dansko Season sandals. Yes not GORGEOUS but okay not hideous and I wore these all around Paris and they are so comfortable. I have both the camel and the black. I love these and these are my second most comfortable sandal after the good ol’ Birkenstock Gizeh.

Also, not seen (due to my one photo) but I’m also wearing:

Illesteva Sunglasses. I’ve worn these sunglasses for years. I decided to give them an honorable mention as they finally kind of bent too much after some MAJOR abuse (sitting, kids throwing, falling out of my car, etc) and I mailed them to Illesteva and they repaired them for me for $25. And are perfect again. Hooray! Really light and comfortable for small faces.

PS: I’ve had a few people ask and I should have ID’d from the start – the dress is the Elizabeth Suzann Polly.

So. What are some of your summer essentials?

First of all, I think your son did an excellent job with the photo. You look so put-together & polished in your outfit.
My summer essentials include white and khaki jeans & linen pants. Also, (handkerchief) linen shirts & tunics along with cotton shirts & tunics. Bottega espadrilles (butter soft leather) and Robert Zur driving moccasins. And LaMer sunscreen. It’s the only one that I can apply and doesn’t feel yucky after it’s on.

    Looking great mama.

I love your outfit, it’s super chic especially the hat!

    My list:
Hermes Mini Evelyne (the heat gives me less patience to carry around lots of stuff – and this bag fits tissue, listerine breath spray, a small wallet, a small iPhone, lip balm, and even a stick of my favorite supergoop glow
stick sunscreen!). I think I could sneak a small bug spray in there too

Birkenstock Gizeh and FitFlop iQushion sandals. The latter are awesome in the rain! I just have little patience for uncomfortable shoes.

Muji waterproof wide brim hat; great for being out and about outside/poolside/beach AND works in a downpour!

Lululemon skirts (tall length since they’re longer) with built in shorts. I look terrible in their running shorts but their skirts look polished enough for running errands (plus have coverage!)

Lululemon tops with silverescent – they are really anti-stink and very breathable for hot days! Their stuff really performs in the heat.

VCA sweet Alhambra studs. Never thought I’d like this size but they are so comfortable to wear, much more so than the vintage size.
