Weekend Update

1. Ulla Johnson is one of my big weakness brands – for some reason I just love her dresses, even though I normally would find them a little bit too girly. A few of my favorite dresses are Ulla, however. This one below is one of my top wishlist items for spring. So pretty! So light and airy and feminine!

It is all cotton, which I guess explains its slightly cheaper price, which is a ridiculous statement in itself as $400 is not cheap for a dress but I guess it is for Ulla! Because the dress is almost all sold out! Shopbop and Revolve are entirely out and while Net-A-Porter has a few left none are in my size. Ahh!

2. A really interesting piece, via Jessica Knoll for The Cut, about being unapologetic about being rich. Some of you might remember I also linked Knoll’s piece last year, from The NYT – I Want To Be Rich and I’m Not Sorry. HOWEVER – I feel that I must inform all of you that if you do want to be rich, I would really, really not recommend being a writer.

3. A take on the fur debate I hadn’t thought of before, via The NYT – A Black Legacy, Wrapped in Fur. Also, once you read that, you can follow it up with this piece about New York City potentially banning fur.

4. An interesting piece, via The Guardian, about the less-than-as-pictured lives of many Instagram “influencers”. Is this a surprise to anyone? I feel like a lot of the people whose lives I’d actually want to know the most about are the ones who post least on IG.

5. This week I was on a Nora Ephron kick. I re-read an old favorite of hers, I Feel Bad About My Neck (even more glorious a second/third time around), and then read her follow-up, I Remember Nothing.

What was really interesting reading the two books back to back was that I could really see how Nora’s writing style and outlook changed over the years – of course, what we know now, which wasn’t revealed at the time, was that by the time Ephron wrote I Remember Nothing she actually knew that she was dying, from acute myeloid leukemia. But at the time of the books publication, the public had no idea. I wished I could have read it not knowing…I wonder what I would have thought. It’s annoying, to read some of the customer reviews now…complaining that it isn’t as easy and comic as her earlier work but then again, they didn’t know. It’s not as light-hearted a read as Neck but it is also much deeper…you get the sense that Ephron is just recording her thoughts, as an intelligent person on this earth. And you still laugh. A lot. I highly recommend I Remember Nothing, especially if you’re an Ephron fan…and if you’re not, why not? She’s incredible.

Net-a-porter.com has a promotion going right for 15% off. I am sure you are aware. But just in case, the code is NETAPORTER15
And I think the dress is beautiful and would look great on you!

Sorry my last comment was cut off – have been under the weather and somehow being sick no proper proofreading. 🙁

The UJ dress above is so pretty – I hope you get lucky and find one somewhere in your size and on sale!

I completely agree with you about (4) above – and on that note – wanted to thank you for sharing about Julie Yip Williams on your IG; really poignant and am grateful for it – thank you!

Hope you had a lovely weekend!
