Weekend Update

1. I recently decided I need a pair of booties. Do you have? I think they are a staple but I’ve avoided them for so long. I think I’ve decided on this pair, by Everlane.

Out of everything they do, I think that Everlane does shoes the best. Often I can find versions of their items from other brands (although I still like their clothes) but I can never find better versions of the shoes. They’re priced just at the right mark and I’m always happy with the quality. I love the pointed toe of the boot and the sleek look and I really could not find anything better priced for the look (I tried). Do you have any Everlane boots? Would love to hear your experiences.

2. Starting off with a controversial profile, by the talented Pamela Druckerman, of the French comedienne who supports Louis CK (and is also dating him now). I want to hear your thoughts.

3. I have been excited for a few weeks now to share this great piece about Meredith Koop, Michelle Obama’s stylist. Will be interesting to watch her career – she has been very subtle, deliberately out of the spotlight which I think is quite rare these days no?

4. I really loved this interview with Mariah Carey, via Pitchfork. It’s so easy to see her as a bit of a caricature but in this interview you can really see the drive, intelligence and talent that got her where she is.

5. This week I read The Friend, by Sigrid Nunez.

I first read this book when it won the National Book Award, which I never paid attention to until I became a writer, to be honest (it’s basically the Oscars of the book world, though I think the Pulitzer is higher name recognition?). Sometimes I’m hesitant to read such lauded books because there’s a simpleton side to me that thinks it equates to boring, but this book was moving, so thoughtful, and so worth the read. It’s also the BuzzFeed Book Club’s pick for December (yours truly was the November). For those of you who’ve read it, the tone reminded me of Dept. of Speculation. I highly recommend The Friend.

My favorite booties are from Aquatalia. They are stylish and weatherproof – great for travel!. I don’t live in a winter climate, so I’m not sure how they work in the snow, but they definitely keep your feet dry in wet and muddy conditions. I have a black suede pair that are five years old and still look brand new.

I have those same boots from Everlane Katherine! The boss boot in black grained leather. I had contemplated them for probably two years because I kept waiting for the Acne Studios Jensen bootie to go on sale which looks very similar. I finally bit the bullet and bought them and they are Ah-MAA-zing. They are SO comfortable (I literally walked 10 miles in Paris in them – two days back to back (yes 20 miles!)), and hilariously, you do feel like a boss on them because of the heel. They are my first pair of Everlane shoes – I usually actually prefer their clothing (especially their Cashmere). They have converted me to their shoes and I will be looking to them more! Also, I have actually always paid attention to the book awards, but thought the Nobel prize in Literature was the Oscar no? Would love your thoughts! And yes I also thought Pullitzer ranked higher than National Book Award! Thank you for continuing to blog as your writer career takes off – your posts bring so much joy to my world every Monday and Friday :).

I have been looking everywhere for booties! I really like these and may check them out. I also like Aquitalia and Ferragamo, but haven’t found anything that works well with narrow-leg jeans.

I was just thinking of Mariah Carey (and how much she has changed over the decades) because I’ve been playing holiday songs in the car and my kids love “All I Want for Christmas is You”.

I love Everlane cashmere and recently saw that they finally added a few new colors in their v-neck style.

I stopped by Alexander Book Co today and your book has great placement! ? I would love for you to mention more aspects relating to your book on your blog. I think most of are excited for you and enjoy cheering you on and hearing about it.

I have a pair of bootie from Cole Haan that are similar in style but with less pointed toes that I love! They get a lot of wear! Will give the Everlane pair a try once mine give out, though I’m a bit dubious about pointed toes. 🙂

I bought 2 pairs of ankle boots this year. One is Paul Green, which are now 60% off at Nordstrom…I got them on sale but paid more.

I also got these from Sundance in very dark brown, which is no longer listed – https://www.sundancecatalog.com/product/starshine+boots.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType=&from=fn

Also very pleased with them, but I waited for free shipping. Sundance charges exorbitant shipping fees!

Read the story about Louis CK — thought it was pretty poorly written, to be honest. This line struck me as particularly egregious — in which the writer (not the comedienne) referred to articles about #MeToo as “sultry tales of gorgeous actresses being ravished”. I mean, really?!

Those boots look like the perfect replacement for my black suede ankle boots. I love Everlane Cashmere (thanks to you!). Now it’s time to try these shoes!
